I still do not see anywhere in that quote where I said I wanted console quality for 5-7$.

Here you go. I'm pretty sure I took that the wrong way, but if you didn't want me to misunderstand, maybe console-ish wasn't the best word to put there.

Anyway, depending on how long each episode is, I might pick up Dimensions for Android. I don't want to spend $8 for an episode that lasts an hour or two. If the more expensive episodes take about the same time as at least half of Final Fantasy III, then...

I don't mind paying a light price of entry to see if I like the game style, and paying for episodes along the way.

What I do expect is that for a ~$30 game I get at least 15-20 hours of game play. I'm fine with paying ~$60 for 40+ hours of game play, so this seems like a reasonable balance.

It`s save to assume that since it`s from Square Enix that we will get around those 15~20 Hours of Gameplay in this Case.

I`m already looking forward to put those $30 on the Table and see if it will be worth it :D

Gonna get ganked here. But you guys and your pledging money. You'll be Pledging $60 not too long from now. A matter of months ago $20 from SE was absurdity. What happens if your $30 purchase wasn't such a good purchase? O well. I understand that we want quality games to come to ios but can you not see that SE made money with the $15 games...the more you say "instabuy" at $30, the higher the next one goes. Go, gank away..

I was happy enough to be paying $20 for SE ports. $30 isn't too much by any stretch. Especially for a game I've never had the opportunity to play before.
I'd also say that if the price goes up, the quality should be going up as well. And, in my opinion, that's good for most iOS users. Unless they're on minimum wage or an allowance. Just my thoughts.
I'm not trying to say your opinions not valid. I'm just putting a different point of view out there.

All I'm concerned with is how far apart the episodes will be. Really can't it just be one game? Is a 15 yr old quality port really that much of a strain on the biggest rpg devs out there that they can giv us a whole game?

So you'd pay $30 for something you haven't tried before? While I think that's a little silly I also see it as fair enough, but that's only because thats essentially what happens when you buy an xbox or ps3 new release, however, remember those games if you do buy the hard copy, you can trade them in or sell. They're also generally accepted that they will be decent quality. But for the iOS platform, with the frequency of releases that we get, and the ease of pushing that buy button, it's all too easy to buy, and spend 30 minutes with it and get over it. Next stop is $40 and then it's onwards to $60. People thought $30 would never happen last year. The overuse of "instabuy" for increasingly expensive games has large devs laughing all the way to the bank. Save this post to favorites because we'll be talking about $60 next year.

Most people are saying they will buy right away because it's from a big name.

Personally I've never been disappointed with a 2D Final Fantasy so I'm more than willing to take the risk (I will probably click buy before even trying the free portion)

    Oh. Hi.
I know I've already professed my love for TAY a few times on these forums lately, but i'll use it again for an example.
As far as i'm aware, they won't be releasing a single episode and then periodically adding more in. They'll be releasing them all at once, as the game is already pretty much finished from what I understand.
    I'm going to assume they're using the "episodic" style in one of two ways;
Similar to TAY, where each important character has an episode devoted solely to them and their influences. All mixed together in the "final" episodes.
    or
They may be using them as "Chapters". Complete a major part of the story, and the next Chapter awaits.
They are giving us a whole game, no waiting for more. It's just broken into "bite sized" pieces.

I have issues with that line of thinking, that a "big name" release is automatically an "insta-buy". But I tend to give the benefit of the doubt to the people who have been in this field for long enough to have a sizeable amount of experience.

Nodnod. That's why I probably WON'T "buy it all" right away, even if I enjoy the prologue and want to continue playing. Isn't the savings between buying the entire game compared to buying it in the three partial installments only about $1?

Since I know how quickly I can lose interest in games nowadays - even the GOOD ones - I'd rather spend $10 and see if it holds my interest instead of dropping $30 right away and never making it past the second hour of gameplay.

Since this will be out the 31st, I'm guessing tomorrow will be the NZ release?

Hmmmm... Priced way too high in my opinion. I'm sorry but the SquareEnix name does not automatically assert quality in my opinion; in my opinion it seems to derive an unwavering scary fandom that seems to garner a praise based off nostalgia that's larger than the company deserves currently, IMO. This pricing for the game seems absurd! $15, maybe even $20 at most for this game (and honestly even that is asking too much), but $30 seems borderline highway robbery for what is essentially a translated port of a game; especially one that is a port, of a port, of a port, of a port numerous times, albeit all reworked to meet their platforms standards. And sadly, the game was never reviewed as great or even good in any version... But it still sold millions in Japan thanks to the Square logo!

I grew up with Final Fantasy (a child of the 70's so started with Atari and C64, and moved on to NES and Master System and nearly every console since) but unlike some I hold no nostalgic allure for the games; some were good some I have to scratch my head how fans consider them more than mediocre much "great". But my scope wasn't limited to consoles as a kid, and for me the PC RPG's the JRPG's tried to emulate were better. They [Final Fantasy 1, 2, 3] were good, but the D&D RPG's, Wizardry, Might & Magic, Ultima and so on were better IMO.

So when games like Baldur's Gate are coming out next month at a pricetag of $10 (a game I have literally spent about two hundred hours on in each play-through), I find it hard to justify the pricetag for this particular game, or the fact that folks are so willing to accept it as sensible consumers... And I was one that picked up TWEWY for iPad with no reservation! Because that was a game I knew actually earned my money despite being high in respects to the AppStore norm! But this? $30?... Seriously? I dare say they are insulting their fanbase at this point!

Ultimately it is up to the individual to buy what they like, but know that it also effects others as it sets a precedent that tells this developer that it can sell high for less. If anything I hope those that do slam the bucks down to the table for the full experience truly feel they are getting their money's worth... I personally can't join you guys on this one though as I will vote with my money!

I want this game to be better than ff3(Jpn) and as good as ff2(the American one for snes).

If you visit http://www.square-enix.co.jp/smart/ffdl/en/ you'll see that the game most likely will be similar to Final Fantasy IV: The After Years in regards to chapter design and length of game content.

You've got the Prologue, a single tale in Chapter 1, then Chapter 2 and 3 which are each broken up into four separate stories (about all eight of the "main characters," I assume) and a final single tale in Chapter 4 to tie it all together.

Chapter 1 is $3 by itself, the other chapters are $10. So the length of Chapter 1 and each of the eight mini-adventures in Chapters 2 and 3 will be similar, with the final chapter being about three or four times as long as the others to end the tale.

So I expect a similar game experience to The After Years, adding a Job System and not having to go through the exact same dungeons I did in FF4 a half-dozen times in the same game. Not to say that you won't need to go through the same dungeon a half-dozen times in THIS one, but at least the first time should be a new experience.

If you want more from the game than a series of 2-hour short stories extended by optional bonus dungeons, I'd hold off on purchasing until someone can verify if there's actually more to the game than that.

I also wouldn't explore that website TOO much, as it seems to have no qualms about giving partial spoilers in regards to the characters and the story.
