You couldn't have been a bigger troll than this comment even if you tried. Wow. Really? First off, the enormous majority of game-buyers and people here at TA do not think gameloft games are crappy in any way. Second, chinese knockoffs?..Did you really?..Wow, I won't even go there. High prices? If you can't afford $6.99 for a brand new game, then please return your iOS device that cost hundreds. They don't want or need your money. Trust me. Wow, I don't even have anything to say to you.
But I must admit that Gameloft's releases have stunning graphics.. It's just that when I play their games, there's something off.. There's something not right about the game.. And I don't enjoy.. I didn't even finish most of their games because of that feeling, and it feels pretty bad that I've wasted a few bucks for their games..
Just finished playing the game. The ending is frustrating, to say the least. CR is definitely much better game.
Alright, so I just finished the game today. Lame ending. I think what is the most disappointing thing about the game is that it seemed so promising at the beginning but then never really goes much of anywhere. Its like the game development team started working on something pretty fun and good with the first couple of areas but then their hopes were dashed by their boss who happened upon them and reminded them of their quickly approaching release date. Yeah - I know that game development doesn't work that way but that's just the way it feels to me. Examples: WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD 1) What happened to the pyagi racing? I only saw a single dude who offered for me to race my pyagi in that very first village you get to after you leave the main city. I only raced the one time, and then never ran across anyone else who offered racing. Where was a fun minigame that offered to give me access to some rare and amazing items? Why couldn't this have been expanded upon into something maybe similar to the swoop racing events in Knights of the Old Republic? 2) Was there only like one time where you even use the airship to travel between like three areas all in the span of maybe five minutes? What happened to any rationale for travelling with it to addtional areas outside of the main quest? Why didn't you get this capability until almost the end of the game? Why were you at least not forced to have to "use" the airship to select where to travel next when on the main quest? Yet another forgettable add-on. 3) Why were there absolutely *no* side quests to be found anywhere? Or at least not easily? It is possible that I completely missed some additional content somewhere but even if that were so, the game just.... ends after you defeat the final boss and goes to the main menu screen so I didn't even *have* any options to even go looking for side quests even if I had wanted to. In most RPGs you are given plenty of opportunities to at least discover plenty of side quests (accidently or intentionally on your part), and many times you really want to do the side quests as continuing the main quest would be in the next city and you want to continue enjoying your stay in the current city or area so you want to finish exploring it. The main quest in this game ended up making you go through all of the areas anyway. Oh I take that back - now I remember that there were a few side quests here and there, but absolutely nothing memorable, the side quests were few and far between, and felt like they were added merely so someone like me couldn't legitmately claim that the game contained *no* side quests at all. 4) And now that I think about it some more the ending was just plain awful. No explanation of anything or what may have happened yet (such as the Guardians helping to rebuild everything, blah blah blah) - just the "heroes" waking up after a 10 mile fall back to the ground. Hmm. And then going back to the main screen. Wow. This game had SUCH promise starting out - what appeared to be a pretty neat combat system, good graphics, not terrible music, pretty neat fragment system etc. But the bottom line is that the game did not take those elements and make a particularly great game from it. Instead, none of those game systems ended up being made useful and balanced. For example about 3/4 through the game I realized that casting damage spells for the most part would do LESS damage than just a regular attack. So. I can either attack for FREE or spend a lot of mana to cast a spell that does about 1/10 the damage? So, I'm thinking I agree much more with gospel9 by now. I'm sorry I disagreed with you at first gospel. Going to go update my iTunes review right now. This game had some fun for a few hours but overall ended up being a very disappointing experience.
I watched the trailer, and played it for a bit on my friends iPhone. Maybe one of Gamelofts worst games, and nothing they make is even "good," it's all middleware, bland and unexciting. This was the worst of that which I have played.
@Andiron: There's no need to apologize. But we need to let more players know what they are going into. There's no denying that Gameloft shaped this one up to give a good first impression, but as you can see they barely put much effort into the actual game. I am by no means a Gameloft hater, in fact I have enjoyed many of their titles in the past. But for those who are still considering Eternal Legacy, you absolutely need to beware of the "first impression reviews". I know it might sound silly to say "it's a trap" but in honesty it's not far from the truth. I got the feeling that the EL developers didn't expect anyone to actually finish the game somehow... so why bother with an ending.
how DARE you! ROBOT UNICORN ATTACK IS THE GREATEST GAME EVER TO BE FATHOMED BY THE FEEBLE, UNSOPHISTICATED MIND OF NON-UNICORNS!
That's easy - it's because most of the time, you can tell that Gameloft hires a lot of people who have no interest in making the games they work on aside from "can model well" or "is good with textures". There's very little inspiration to be found. The passion, the spark, is missing, and once you start to notice it you can't stop. Call me cynical, but I think the ranting dude above is on the right track. Can you name a few Gameloft games that don't have a direct successful console/PC counterpart? But I'm not going to institute a personal boycott of Gameloft games just because it's Gameloft. There are gems amongst the mediocrity - I'm very much enjoying NOVA 2, in fact. But I won't be giving the benefit of the doubt to games like Eternal Legacy in the future.
not referring to eternal legacy, i even did not play it.This games better than chaos rings. No idea what you're talking about. If it was terrible, you wouldn't have played it until the end.
all u guys ripping gameloft are ridiculous. They make really good games. Is it the cool thing to hate them or something. I will never understand how anyone can argue against them. sure not every game is great but they put out a ton of games, push the envelope for ios gaming and in general i enjoy most of their titles. Assassins Creed Altairs Chronicles is amazing on ipad and the two Dungeon Hunter games are fun. Havent played EL yet but i loved Zombie Infection, Blokus, AC, DH and DH2 Nova, Nova 2, MC, MC2, BIA 2, The Settlers, Lets Golf, House of Sparta, HOS 2, Splinter Cell, Prince of Persia, etc. Cmon man. Those are some good games.
I never said Gameloft was incapable of making good games. The issue I have with Eternal Legacy is that it ONLY was good for the first couple of hours but then the rest of the game was tacked on. In other words, whether they intended to or not it very much appears that they went for a good first impression to get some positive intial reviews and that was wrong of them. I was suckered in as well however I did buy it on the day of release so that's what I get I suppose. Once bitten twice shy though and I will only ever buy another Gameloft title after a very heavy amount of scrutiny no matter how tasty it looks... Oh well. There's other stuff to play. Maybe I should stick with known good RPGs instead (like maybe the Secret of Mana port that was just released).
Oh yes I do have Aralon and it is not even as polished as Eternal Legacy in many ways but the gameplay is much more fun.
direction pointers gone so i get my airship fixed, and im Taric....Then blue arrow disappears!?!?! wth, does anyone know what to do? I've explored the map, talked to almost everyone, the wolf dude at the top of the tower wont talk to me -.- anyone know what to do ?
I think you're at the part where you have to go into your inventory and "use" your airship similarly to the way you use the pyagi. You then use the airship to travel to a couple of locations you've previously been to.
I haven't played EL in particular, but I think Blokus is the perfect example. It should be so simple to get right. I love the board game to death, and the iOS port is actually a good game just because it is Blokus. I will definitely finish the single-player mode, which means a lot of happily wasted time. But nothing about the game is really exciting. Graphics, sound and programming are professional, but they seem to follow a checklist of being sufficient and then stop right there. Nothing ruins products more for me than this cold, haunting feeling. I could have paid twice the money on e.g. Carcassonne and still feel as if I were holding a Porsche among board games. For Blokus I probably won't even get an update to fix any of the UI quirks. Why would I, there's no financial incentive and nobody loved their product enough in the first place. I personally won't buy Gameloft stuff on a whim again. They're the publisher and responsible for a solid experience IMHO. +1 for Aden who probably found better words for it. I realize the part of the thread I am replying to is a few days old, but that Gameloft discussion hit a sore spot right now, and will keep me from trying EL-topic. Thanks for the thread.
i played/finished the game, read criticism against gospel9's opinion and vouch for him 100%, the graphics were nice, but extremely repetitive and boring as hell... don't buy it, try something else.
Eternal Legacy is the first ever RPG game I've bought and finished when I bought my iPhone4 last year. It was the most disappointing ending I've ever seen in an RPG game.
