Just look at the tens of thousands of posts in the Eliminate thread. Yes, we all know this. Just forget about Eliminate and go play NOVA or buy Call of Duty or something...
Look, most fps don't even have the leveling up system of Eliminate. To me, this is the icing on the cake of eliminate while even HAVING multiplayer is the icing on the cake for NOVA. I really don't understand why you feel you must level up to have fun. If you need to be rewarded for your playing, focus on your skill level instead. NOVA doesn't even HAVE a skill level to measure improvement so there is no way for people playing that game to feel that you are advancing. Furthermore, Eliminate isn't a battle of upgrades. Look, I am level 27. I have never purchased a single power cell and I have made TONS of bad purchases and wasted TONS of credits. Despite this, I am matched up against people who are usually ten levels higher than me and I usually beat them. I actually just got matched up with a guy who was level 49 and he (or she, I can't assume) only got one kill on me. I don't use any of the weapons people consider overpowered. I use a autorifle, a gravity hook, and assault armor. I think that this demonstrates the value of skill in this game. Upgrades are just a nice reward for doing well while playing with energy. I feel people forget that the game is still fun without energy and thus discredit it due to the admittedly steep power cell prices. The thing is, upgrades, credits, and powercells are two things. First, they are a way for Ngmoco to make money off of this game. Second and most importantly, they are a way to make the player feel progress from playing the game. It is analogous to a role playing game where despite your purchasing of new weapons, armor, etc. the difficultly level stays roughly the same. The strength that you gain over time is mostly measurable by your ability to beat opponents that you had previously faced easily even though these are no longer your main opponents. The same is true for eliminate. You can feel that you are stronger than you used to be even though you are probably having roughly to same kill to death ratio as your skill points slowly increase and allow you to play opponents of a similar caliber. That, for me, is the beauty of the game. I feel rewarded for playing even though I know that I will always be playing opponents with roughly the same skill as me. Seems like a pretty good system to me. ALSO, people complain eliminate's matchmaker is a bit flawed, but it works a LOT better than allowing the user to join games without any knowledge of what type of game he or she is joining. Is it going to be filled with lag? Is it going to be filled with players way below or way above his or her skill level? who knows? The only reason people care more about this in Eliminate is because they are so afraid of not earning credits one round and wasting some of their energy when it isn't even that important anyway. I am not trying to say that anyone is wrong in enjoying NOVA. I understand that it is just a matter of opinion. The point is that powercells, energy, and credits are only as important as you make them. I like to think of them as little nice bonusess I get for playing.
Who tried to warn everyone Eliminate was gonna be a flop? Me. I told everyone, and no one believed me.
I had Eliminate installed for a week, played it once and just deleted it from iTunes when I was cleaning out my library..
If eliminate controlled like nova I probably would have played it for more than a week. They can do whatever on the business model, but a craptastic game is still a turd no matter how it's marketed.
I actually liked eliminate's controls. It fit the game that it is. No cover, just run and gun and gun and gun and gun... infinite ammo.... I wouldn't have minded their powercell system if they gave you more for your money. The reason you guys didnt like it is because you prolly got killed once and then deleted it.
i think we will know if this system really works for them in a year. after a few more fps come out. the hype has long been forgotten. time will tell. one thing is for sure, they could always change the $$$ system if they need too. and people would buy it from the reviews iv read.. so, for now they must be making money!! chris.
Eliminate just doesn't seem to control nearly as smoothly to me. Don't know why, it just doesn't. You are correct, they are almost identical, I just think nova's is much better.
The power cell system in Eliminate wouldn't be so bad if it didn't take like 2 hours after every 3-4 matches to recharge. If was extended just a couple more matches, say to around 7-8 I would be good. I can only go a couple matches anyways before I get mad and quit because I get vaporized in 2 shots.
i actually hate all iphone FPSs i mean, naisss. we can play on a 3.5" screen on the go pal. oh joy. then your thumbs get in the way, then all the health bars, energy bars, status things, weapon select, fire button, then your weapon in the bottom of the screen. OMG someones shooting behind me!! Must swipe screen with big thumbs to turn around. Shit that swipe didnt register. There we go. Huh? Where was he? Oh noesss.... So that leaves what? 2.0" area to identify the guy thats gonna frag you before he skullf**ks u and piss in it.
Yeah... I think the controls need to be improved. The scrolling effect in conjunction with lags makes the game impossible to control. Aiming is nightmare then.
