It seems close to release. The game is probably done by now, or at least close to it. Online games work a bit differently than single player games, in that there has to be a sufficiently large server network to handle the load of a bunch of gamers trying to sign on at once and play. They can't afford to have the game launch, and have a situation where the early adopters can't get online because the servers are overloaded. At the same time, they also can't do a staggered launch at a high price point to reduce the load on the servers, then slowly drop the price to reach a critical mass of users because the App Store's top sellers algorithm doesn't really allow for that sort of rollout. Thus there is a delicate situation where they have to launch as big and as hard as possible, and still be able to manage a completely unknown level of demand on their online infrastructure. I could be way off, but my guess is that these issues are the main reason the game isn't out yet.
Well said! And the reason why i want GL's online enabled FPS to work as well is to somehow divide players amongst their servers. I find it dangerous for all FPS fans to cram into just one server.
could they at least tell us how much it's going to cost it's not like at's coming out in 5 months or something.
Let me rephrase that: i got excited before i open the post, i thought they're going to tell us the release date, then i open the post PFFFFFFT show link
I could've sworn that the page loading at eliminate.ngmoco.com had 9-23-09 written for like a second before the whole page loaded. Now I may seriously be going crazy but if its out on 9-23-09, you all owe me a dollar.
Wow. What an idiotic accusation. I'm not an ngmoco rep, I love Modern combat, though I never bothered to post any positive comments. When have I said anything negative about Nova? I'm really looking forward to that game. Thanks for the insult btw, I just wish it wasn't from a 14 year old who can't spell.
It's funny how you only respond to me, when i just quoted someone else. Does it ever occur to you that i may be on the iphone and those so called errors are just typos Now what he said and i quote is 'you keep on downplaying Sandstorm and Nova'... Dude just go back to your post and tell me he isn't correct.... to give you some 1) Sandstorm thread: 'I wish the level design wasn't so boring.' 2) Eliminate thread: 'Name one GL game with polish. ' 3) Nova Thread 'Don't get too excited guys. I'm pretty sure that's local wifi multiplayer. ' ...now compare these with everything you said about eliminate so far and you will know the reason why he called you off!
STFU. You're really pissing me off. 1) Yeah, guess what? The level design IS boring! 2) Yes, GL games don't have much polish, whereas ngmoco in the past have been known to create a very thick layer of polish. That doesn't mean GL games aren't good, most of them are fantastic. 3) GL in the past have only implemented local multiplayer in their games, with the exception of UNO. That was my reasoning behind the local multiplayer, along with the fact that their servers aren't ready yet. (This was before I knew about voice chat.) Now I agree I should have posted my overall feedback on MC, which was overwhelmingly positive. I was arguing not for Eliminate, but for the business model as a whole. You yourself have been 'downplaying' Eliminate throughout the entire thread. Not one of your posts have been positive or even helpful to the thread. You spoke of the 'evils' of DLC, and how it could change iPhone gaming. You seem to think it's some unworldly sin. Who knows, Eliminate could be a complete failure, we'll just have to wait.
Are you seriously going to sit here and tell me about how Nova's levels will be before you have even played it. Even in that video you saw a minute of gameplay and it was completely linear.
He is right why are we talking about Nova in this thread? Judge a game on its own merit, don't just compare it to a different game in the same genre.
My thoughts upon seeing your argument, albeit far less rude. The level design could use some improvements though, i agree with you on that. DLC is nasty in general, you often don't get what you were promised, if they even ever get around to releasing it, and it often becomes free later, and then suddenly disappears to reappear in the next game in the series, whether or not it is made by the same company and regardless if you ever even had a chance to get it for the one hour it became free before disappearing. And people still buy these download packs, knowing that they will either become free later or have a sale, and quite probably appear in the next game which they will inevitably be purchasing, leaving those who don't often unable to play online because they lack certain maps. With energy, ngmoco is taking the "SGN path" where you pay to play, and if you don't, you get left in the dust. Sure they have they're own "Better" system, and hopefully that works, but it's still the same idea: Make people think they need to play and earn money, and then watch the money roll in. Lets steer away from this argument, and go back to talking about the game in question @BR: Pretty much, although DLC is still pretty nasty.
