Earphone worn out within just 4 months! :(

I brought my ipod touch 3g around 4 months ago. Now the circular rubbery coating around one of the earpiece got peeled off. Should I get a replacement from Apple? Will they replace this earphone?

I have always handled my ipod with good care. Really feel sad to find this now. :(

Apple earbuds are craptastic. Several pairs of mine started busting within the first 6 months. Just get a solid $20 one by Senheisser.

I've had my pair for ~2 years now, keep them in a case and they're in pristine condition.

Just depends on how well you treat them.

  4. I've never used Apple's crap earbuds. Get yourself a decent pair, almost anything sounds better.

I've used both of those brands and think they are heavily overrated considering the price and sound quality you get from them. As for the stock earbuds I also suggest going for some cheap Senheisser's for durability along with decent sound quality.

  7. Yeah, don't even bother with Beats. They're an overpriced crap Monster product. Bose hasn't been good for years. Sennheiser, Ultimate Ears and Shure are great brands to look into. I'm using the UE Triple-Fi 10vi right now, and they're quite impressive.

Seriously, who's going to bother with putting earbuds in a little case, taking them out, unwinding them, and rewinding them every time you're done? I'm not saying that they should be rugged, shock-proof products capable of being submerged 1000 meters, but they should survive being wrapped around my iPod in my pocket.

  9. When you pay more than $40 for buds you start treating them a little more delicately. I always keep mine in its aluminum case.

When the price goes up, definitely. I use to be incredibly ginger with my Senheisser headphones before they were stolen. But Apple's earbuds can be bought in packs of 3 for $6... come to think of it, that's probably why they don't last too long.

Yeah, Apple's pack-in buds are only marginally better than dollar store merch. Their in-ear buds aren't bad, but still quite overpriced. Sennheiser does make quality stuff though, even their cheap buds and IEMs are better than most.

Though the ultimate quality/price IEMs I ever found were JVC Marshmallows. Seriously, dirt cheap, surprisingly good sound for the price. After I fried my Shure SE3s (literally; accidentally nuked 'em along with my first iPod Touch) I used them for the longest time 'til I bought these UltimateEars.

    Apple headphones = crap

The only good thing about them is the remote. I just got a pair of lady gaga headphones- may sound gay but they have AMAZING sound and a 3 year warrenty so pretty safe stuff.

  13. Not to keep repeating myself (I just love them so), but the UE TripleFi 10vi's I bought have an inline one-button remote that works like the Shuffle, and it's damn handy. The one thing I never really liked was having to take the iPod (and later iPhone) out of my pocket to switch tracks, pause, etc. so having the inline remote is perfect.

Wow, stealing headphones! That's pretty low.

But yeah, I agree with general consensus that Apple earbuds are crap.
Probably the most durable earphones I've ever owned are the Sony ones that came with my original PSP. I've owned them for 3 years now and the are still in good condition. They seem to be made of a super hard plastic that won't crack/split and the cable is strong and very flexible. The sound quality is actually pretty good too.

I have an old Sony MD-15 from 1994. It still works and it has never broken down on me. Lost the fuzz for the ears, but that's probably for the best since it made my ears itch. I still use it from time to time when I want a different experience from my earbuds.

I definitely recommend Sony for durability and quality.

I know I'm echoing others when I say this, but Apple headphones really are bad. I suggest the NuForce Ne-6 (or Ne-7M if you want the mic). The Ne-6 is $39 with the respective $49 for the Ne-7Ms. They're great IEMs and the sound quality is very good.

The rubber crap came of my earbuds long ago, still use 'em. Barely notice the difference.

My earphones worn out after about a year, now the left earphone produces annoying static half the time. I only use them for like half an hour a day, anyone know of some good inexpensive brands of earphones (not headphones)?
