It could be that this game didn't age well? It's your standard side scroller/shooter game with some light puzzles and quirky jokes wrapped in a duke nukem flavor. It's not amazing but it's not terrible either. If you want a side scroller that isn't rated G with bright colors and cute everything, this is the game for you.
You absolutely cannot trust reviewers to ever give Duke a fair shake anymore. How dare somebody make an action game that isn't about some military dude shooting brown people in the desert.
Got a code for this game. At first was expecting an FPS, but it was an action platformer. Having fun so far.
UPDATE - New version 1.0.9 Hey guys, Just want to let you know that we submitted an update, minutes ago (1.0.9): - adjustable controls size (by default, it will be a bit smaller on the iPhone/iPad) - adjustable controls transparency (default remains the same) - adjustable controls height on iPad (default will be a bit lower than it is now) - corrected a rare problem with auto-saves - corrected a problem in the final boss, Duke could fall in space eternally - corrected a problem with IAPs that had to be restored in some cases - some tips are shown at the beginning of the game - some minor bug fixes The update will hit the store early next week. Thanks! Diogo.
I got a promo code for game but to be honest I didn't have enough time to actually play it long enough to share a fair review. Now that I did play it, my first impression was - so many virtual buttons on screen ! I never used kicking button, but switching weapons is a bit of pain with buttons positioned on top. Apart from that, I really enjoyed the game.No surprise with Dukes macho lines, played Duke Nukem 3D as a kid.It trows just enough different enemies, weapons and funny scenes to keep you interested and wanting to cause more mayhem all around. IAPs aren't forced to players , pure optional choice for people who want stronger weapons early on, which anyway breaks up the immersion. It might sound hypothetical now that I got game for free, but this arcade is worth a buy at current pricetag.
The PC version has a Metacritic rating of 78. It's possible that the Xbox version had problems. For what it's worth, I got a promo code as well and left detailed impressions on the upcoming thread. To summarize: I've been enjoying it quite a bit.
It's for people who want to "cheat" and get stuff early. It's not something you need to give duke stamina to walk another 10 steps.
I was a lucky one who grabbed a free code a few days ago. Thanks. I'm so addicted to this game, that concerning the spent time and the fun i had and still have on hard mode, this is my personal GOTY contender, already i know. I beat the easy mode without any iap, though i bought the 'messy' weapon before (devs support) but didn't us it. Would be way too easy. It took me more then 16 hours to finish it ! Died a lot while searching everything, also got lost in the big 'catacombes' here and there. Not one boring minute. Recommended ! Edit: looking forward to the update next week !
Good work, some stuttering on my iPhone 5s but game is very good, maybe with the next iPhone game will run perfectly
I played this game back in the day on PC, and it's is as great fun now as it was back then. Yes, The Duke's remarks can get a bit tiring and trite for an adult, but the platforming, action and finding of secrets, (which are everywhere), is oldschool at its best. Playing on the iPad, the controls are adequate, just, and with the proposed update that's in the pipeline, it ought to be as good as can get for a game like this. If there's one tiny thing I'd wish for, it would be bigger fonts for the text showing weapon and ammo at the top of the screen. I can hardly read it, even when I squint, but I'm an old dude, and, really, I don't need it that much, I just run and gun! I'm having a blast. EDIT!! I think there was a small glitz in my game, since the fonts I was complaining about is now much bigger... Don't know what happened, but there's no issue now at all.
...and iCade? It is the first time I see a game which supports MFi without requiring iOS7 in the first place.
Ah man, I should have noticed that it was over 100 megs before I left work, now I have to wait till Friday.
