For what it's worth this has been said with literally every single device that has fallen out of developer favor, and it hasn't resulted in anywhere near the doom and gloom people predicted.
True, but usually a device doesn't fall out of developer favor before a new device has been released. Not being able to play this on the latest hardware available is very disappointing.
From what I understand from the discussion on the other forum it might not be a memory problem at all. It seems the developer made this in Kismet instead of Unreal without really being an expert in programming. In one post he even says there might be unused/unnecessary data left from previous builds inside the game. It could be one ore more conflicts. So maybe its just a case of cleaning up the data and remove all the unnecessary programming. Or redo/copy the whole thing in Unreal.
So we wait a year with our iPads. We were shown all the great great things coming.. and now that those games are here... please upgrade. LOL Yeah, this looks like it's all the developers fault considering Infinity Blade and Epic Citedel run flawlessly on my iPad.
I trust this game is eventually going to release for 3GS/iPod Touch 4G— the developer will realize that the profits he'll get selling the game on these platforms exceeds the cost of hiring someone to "port", I guess, this game to those devices. All I hope is he finds someone to do it soon. EDIT: Thanks, Hodapp. =)
While I realize not everyone is made of money (I'm certainly not), the iPad 1 and iPod Touch 4 only have 256mb of ram. The iPod touch 4 has to power a high res retune screen, while the iPad 1 has to power the large screen size and resolution. Being as serious about gaming, as I am, this ram boost in the iPad 2 was why I wanted the upgrade. It was pricey, however, selling my MINT condition iPad 1 prior to the March keynote ensured a low cost difference out of pocket for the upgrade. Sometimes it takes savvy planning ahead. I realized last year, I want to upgrade annually. So, I set up a small savings account just for this reason. I figure ahead of time to keep my device in the pristine condition, sell it and pay the couple hundred dollars difference. That's like 20.00 dollars a month, cheap really.
OMG 1.2 Million posts! Ok ok I'm actually gonna contribute. Does anybody know whether the game will feature an inventory system?
All I have to say is damn. That's some serious dedication. But of course, you can still understand us iPod Touch folk wanting this game to be on their 4Gs which they thought they understood could play all iPhone 4 games, right? And the fact that an iPod Touch compatible with this game hasn't been released yet? It should be completely possible for this game to run (maybe not at 100%, but run) on all devices Infinity Blade can. If the developer is resolute, he will make this happen. Unlike you, Pacificsun, not all of us have incredible foresight. xD
I have a similar system. Every year when a new device comes out, I pull a plastic card out of my wallet.....(didn't say it was a great system).
Not playable on iPod Touch 4? Fine, I will pass, what a shame but no big deal. From what I read from the forum, looks like it is more likely to be a problem of how the map transition works with devices with less "capacity". And this issue keeps this piece from coming out "soon". It sounds very definite that the developer is not very wild about this "limitation" but I think...well, as above.
Wait wtf? It's not compatible with the 4th gen. iPod? Oh shit, gotta say sorry to that guy from earlier. He's right, WTF?!
It seems odd that this is not going to be compatible with 4th gen iPod. The unreal engine has always been really flexible in the past, so why would it be problematic now? It also seems odd that the developer is upset about this, as they must have known about the problems soon after starting development. I'm assuming that the next iPod will have 512mb of RAM, which it should have had this gen. My wife has an iPad 2, so I may just get it and play it on there, but I would have preferred playing on my iPod.
Wow, now I feel stupid for thinking that this will be compatible with 3rd gen iOS. Does the developer said that anything about trying to make it compatible with older device? If not, I might as well change my waiting list. :C
