I'm not really a developer, but I'm definitely interested. When browsing through the app store how many of you have caught yourselves just looking for a good looking icon instead of reading through the titles & descriptions etc?

Has any one done research on this ie. release the same app with one ugly icon and one amazingly designed icon? I would love to check it out!

I believe it makes as much of a difference as product packaging makes on a store shelf.

    …Which is a lot.

I believe it makes a huge difference! Yet its probably the hardest part of the game to get right, since you only get 57x57 pixels to give off the first impression.

It definitely makes a difference, the icon I used the week I released my App was a bit boring, it wasn't particularly bad, just boring.

    First Week Sales: 100 (ish).

I decided to upload a new more interesting Icon in the second week.

    Second Week Sales: 1000+.

It literally couldn't have been anything other than the icon really because it was feature in Apple new and noteworthy for both weeks.

It just goes to show that even if you're on a featured section, if your app doesn't have a nice icon, people will just click on a different one that does.
