*sigh* Another game that'll turn free-to-play if I make the mistake of updating it. Time to add a copy to my backup folder of other Pre-FTP-update games. I swear that folder is growing bigger and bigger by the week, and convincing me more and more to buy a 3DS... just so I don't have to deal with this nonsense anymore.
Definitely a bummer when this happens. Also hate when apps are no longer supported on new devices and/or OS updates. Im curious as to what apps are in your Pre-FTP-update folder?
I don't even bother keeping those files anymore. Hmm. Cool, Dead Trigger update! Reads update Ad supported New FTP IAPs model. WTF DELETE APP from iTunes. Thanks for your middle finger developers, but no thanks Wishes the InDev Brain team bad fortunes and bankruptcy Puts InDev Brain on the Do Not Buy list Yeah. That's the way it is.
Guys, I know this is a sensitive topic (and rightly so), but may I remind you that while you're free to voice your opinion, you still have to follow the forum rules. You can't just cuss at, insult or wish crap on developers, just like you can't with all the regular users here. Please keep that in mind, or we're going to have to put some people in time-out.
Im still pretty happy of the intact gameplay which isnt affected by the switch to freemium. One thing bothers me though. Ads. I know it doesnt show up often, but i hate ads. Also, how much does the Auto-Healing break game balance? It would suck if you could just plow through levels coz there's very little chance if any, that you'd die. The new modes are fantastic. Not so happy about the dual currency, and the secondary-currency-only weapons, but the new modes are perfect.
Agreed, I think it's an all around great update. Perhaps add a $1 iap to remove adds as well as get a little gold?
Instead of irritating early supporters, why not just release a separate app like Phosphor did with Dark Meadow?
Hi everyone, As always, we follow the discussions on TouchArcade are always happy to have you feedback and impressions. So thanks to all of you. Please keep in mind that, just like you, we are gamers. And as such, just like you, we are sensitive to the matter of free-2-play and understand so much talking crystallises around it. Those of you who know BulkyPix know that pushing premium games on the App Store is a great deal for us. However the thing is our core business is, well, publishing games and earning enough money out of each to keep on publishing. This is no secret, mobile gaming is a hyper-competitive market with a hyper-moving audience. To be honest, there's not much we could say that hasn't already been said by Rip73 throughout the last few pages. He perfectly summarized the situation as it is. To keep it short: developing and publishing games costs more and more money (even on mobile), and beyond a certain (unfortunate) commercial stage, switching from premium to F2P to reach a broader audience becomes the only solution to stay afloat. Many of you complained about the decision not to offer two versions of Dead Effect, a premium one and a F2P one. We'd like to emphasise that our partner InDev Brain is an indie developer with limited resources. Thus, managing only one application with its own ecosystem was the way to go to guarantee a high-quality evolution of the game in the future (like with this update, who also brought quite a lot of new content). We of course remain open to discussion and to answer any question you may have.
Yeah, that'd be fine... I read Rubicon one time talking about in-game ads and saying they did not make much off of those or something... Other than the ads, I don't see a huge issue here. I played a ton yesterday and did not run into problems. I am fine with the dual currency... The coveted super cool weapons and abilities are more rare than the regular ones... they could have just made them a ton of regular cash to buy though... I think the $2 I paid has been well-reimbursed in the switch to free to play. Good job developers in the switch over to f2p. Hopefully it works out because you guys have developed a satisfying, frightening, lengthy game experience.
Greetings to everyone. It seems that the decision to go f2p has stirred up quite a discussion and we have received a lot of feedback. Vincenzo78140 and Rip73 have already summed up most of the reasons why we had to take this step, but we'd still like to comment on it personally. Going f2p was a hard decision for us because each one of us is also a gamer and we understand that iaps and ads can be annoying. That's why, at the beginning, we wanted to have the game without them. Then we hopped on the developer train and saw how extremely hard it was to create a game and keep it alive. Still, we've tried to last without iaps and ads for as long as we could, but this is simply no longer possible. The version for Android, which was f2p , reached over a milion downloads while the iOS version has a few thousand. This is a huge difference and we simply had to take that step in order to keep the game going and not be forced to drop the project. We have also tried to make up for it the best we knew how. Early supporters who updated the game all received a thank you gift in the form of 300 gold bars and 5 million credits. This bundle is worth around 14 EUR if bought the normal way. The game itself cost around 4 EUR, so the bundle is worth a lot more than the initial cost. We truly thought that this would be fair. A note for those that already owned the premium version. In order to receive the gold and credits, you MUST upgrade your game. That means that you must have the 1.1 version in your phone before you download version 1.2. DO NOT delete version 1.1 or you won't recieve the credits and gold. So, in conclusion, we tried hard to provide you all with a solid update with new features, mods and weapons and we would be happy if you still gave it a chance, despite the fact that it had to go f2p. Thank you
Arc Squadron Cling thing Wimp: Where's My Pants Magic Orbs Spellsword To-Fu... just to name a few Of course... that's not including games that still cost the same, but are updated with a bunch of advertisements & cheat powerups that it heavily encourages you to use. FTP switching is the way of the future... I'm jumping ship before I sink along with it.
That's smart. I just restore everything that get's updated by iTunes from my trash folder and keep the old versions until I verify the updates aren't bad. I'm finding it may just be easier though not to buy any games from devs I don't have a history with and trust and try to avoid all devs and even publishers that support the whole bait and switch. I'd make a crap list but I'm finding it easier to just keep track of the few that are actually good.
I haven't received credits or gold bars for updating, and the game has been on my iPad since I bought it.
Thanks for chiming in on it personally, much appreciated the direct from the team themselves and the same to Vincenzo. The difference between the download numbers for the F2P android version versus the numbers for the paid iOS version just hammers the point home and proves that you had no choice in the matter whatsoever. I still think it was a brave decision to launch it on iOS with the strategy ye did but I also think it was a brave decision to change that strategy when the numbers just didn't add up. Particularly as it could/might have been just as easy to abandon the iOS one and focus only on the android one because of its numbers. Which I'm sure would have upset people even more. Obviously, my stance is in support of you guys because I can see that it was the only choice available (beyond abandoning iOS version altogether). That doesn't alter the fact that you did indeed provide a very generous compensation for the early adopters, more than generous in my opinion and that even with the switch have made a fine example of an extremely well balanced product that, in the playtime I've had with it since yesterday, seems truly free to play if one chooses to do it that way and that even if the iOS version had launched in this way there would no paywalls or iap push put on people and no one would have any justification for complaint. Particularly when compared with some of the stuff out there. So basically thanks for the free stuff (14 quids worth), thanks for the update and if you guys keep supporting it, I'll keep playing. And here's hoping that the few thousand current iOS players catch up with the million android players (and bloody well buy some iap hopefully). Best of luck.
Yes you guys are being more than fair in catering to the early supporters who bought the game at premium, I haven't downloaded the update yet but as far as I can tell it looks to be without pay walls with the only complaints coming from individuals who can't stand to think about the conversion. I'm very glad you guys can continue to support the game now, I would much rather have this than dropping the game entirely. One of the best IOS games I own and will buy IAP if you guys put up some Unique stuff. One thing that would be awesome and I already mentioned would be maybe differnt gloves/cosmetics for the male/female characters Keep up the good work!
Can download any app, but this one. Stops halfway and replies "can't download at this time." On an iphone 5s with 3.2gigs left.
I have the older none f2p version of this game but have not really played it much. For those in the know: is it better to play through the non IAP version then upgrade, should I upgrade immediately or never upgrade? I appreciate it may be too early to say, at this point. Cheers.
I think you should definitely update, because inDev added a ton of really really high quality stuff that shouldn't be missed. I would do a playthrough before the update, in order to experience it the way inDev originally hoped, then update it and try the new weapons and game modes that have been added
