Ok is it turned out the version I kept downloading was still the old one, so the update is still flushing through the system. But I was able to update it via the update tab.

And Tadaaa! I got full screen ads, I got dual currencies to deal with, the 300 gold bars, no credits. Those gold bars might be enough for 1 of the items I saw in there (for people who didn't pay for this game, you can just "like" their Facebook to get a huge chunk of the gold etc). Complete and utter crap. So if you're an early adopter, make sure to backup the old copy of the game if you still have it.

 This is a very big off for the early adopters. Imo the only fair action if you want to turn your game to free is to make a separate version... When i bought the game i haven't in mind to fight with ads, dual currencies etc.
To be honest i haven't try the update yet (because i don't want to ruin my old trust version) but from what i m reading this is unfaithful for the early adopters even with the extra cash that they taking.

It definitely is something that is becoming a pretty big issue. I guess we can only hope for Apple to put a stop to all the crap game developers are up to nowadays.

I dunno if it was or not:) but thanks.

The ad was very off putting I'll admit but I've only seen one and put a good bit of time in to see what has happened.
All in all, I can't really see any negatives beyond the ad. Can still earn away. I seem to be getting gold rewards on certain missions, not a lot but more than nothing, 4 was the minimum I've gotten for a single mission.

The early adopter reward allowed to buy a top gun for 300 gold and the 5 mill allowed to buy and fully upgrade every other weapon bar the three gold bar costing ones so can't really see a problem in that as I've a fully upgraded armoury now (bar the three gold bar costing ones of course).

What I would recommend is that people skip that 300 bar rifle and get the health regenerator for 250 bar instead as the machine gun for currency just below the top gold bar rifle is equally as effective whereas a health regen would be much more useful.
Or maybe an explosives equipment slot. Can't remember what that costs but it would be more entertaining I reckon.

Disappointing. I considered this as one of the best FPS games on the appstore, and looks like it wont be staying on my ipad any longer.

When I complained to Apple about AvP: Evolution doing this f2p bullshit Apple gave me credit for 5 free songs as they could not refund me for some sundary reason.

Not perfect but an elegant solution. Perhaps you could try that?

They might do a refund. I don't know yet, I'll probably keep the old version and give it a spin. And in the future just advice people to avoid this developer.

That's a bit extreme considering that they are probably just trying to stay in business after all. I just hope that it they can recover fully from whatever caused this to be necessity.

The reasons for it are pretty obvious.
Launching at premium (5 dollars if I recall correctly, which I don't consider a premium price anyway) with no iap simply will not recoup development, publishing and marketing costs.
You will be operating at a loss on something of this scale and you will nt be generating enough income to maintain a workflow or upgrade process on the product.
You will not appeal to the mass market and end up with only a niche market that represents a very tiny, almost imperceptible percentage of potential players.

While I admire their initial launch strategy, it was very brave but it was clear that they would eventually have to switch or abandon the project completely.

And while many on here will turn on the developer, the simple fact is that they still only represent a very small niche market that will not sustain growth for that developer. Sorry but that's just the way it is.
And while switching is not an ideal solution (launching at it would have been), it is still a better solution than folding up tents, abandoning the project and going home with nothing. Or worse, a mountain of debt.

As much as many people here won't like what's happened, it does open up a much larger marketplace for them beyond the niche market the majority of opinion here represents. To such an extent that the prevalent opinion here wouldn't even represent a percentage of a percentage of even a percentage of an even smaller percentage.

It is of course a major pity that the larger market place will not support a premium product at a premium price but unfortunately one must work within the market and its forces that they find themselves.

I personally still think the early adopters (as one myself because I really did want a product of this type and strategy at the time to succeed) got an appropriate level of reward and value for money and the game itself is still what it always was, an excellent product and a worthy game.

If the sales are lower then expected, either move on or release a separate freemium version. Don't screw over your customers. It's really that simple.

I don't know how any found this switch surprising, to be honest. The game launched on Android as free-to-play and has over a million downloads (and 35,000+ reviews) on Google Play. At first I couldn't quite understand why we (Android gamers) were getting "screwed" by getting a F2P version of a premium iOS title, but nah...realistically this is the best thing to happen to Dead Effect...

..and the game hasn't been ruined by it, believe me.

And one more thing; if you make premium game leave it like that, and if you make freemium make it like that from start so that real classic gamers can avoid it and not spend real money on some freemium to bee stuff!
Whats next? Lone wolf goes fremium? So we can buy missing letters to read full page?

Lets just all trow away iDevices and buy 2 unstable androids for that money and have freemiums till the end of phone gameing...
I dont get it how desperet you have to be to buy one use coins or what for real money for the game so you can buy your pass through?
Il rather pay 10$ for premium polished classic game than download a fremium...

    Bulkipix never again...

Yeah, I feel the same way. I don't feel bad at all for throwing down $5 when this first came out. It's still one of the best FPS titles I've played on the iOS... and now with all these extra modes, weapons, ect... this one will stay on my device for some time to come. The controller support is great as well. I just hope that this helps and that we can see more from InDevBrain on the iOS in the future.

I just tried it and its kind of hard. If you die you dont keep any of your money you gained or anything. Of course they ask you to buy a revive using premium currency :(

  18. I bought the game at full price. Enjoyed it but put my progress on hold until this update came out, as it literally was a massive game changer.

I am loving the new update and all the extra money they gave. Bought an explosives slots and enjoying tossing grenades. Enjoying upgrading all my gear...

I don't get the complaints. It was $2...... I've gotten more than that amount of entertainment from it.

    Same old arguments, huh?

    Yup.

I've put a good bit more time in it now and I have to say, it is a substantial update with lots of new modes with a big pay off in the switch in reality.
Grenades and fully upgraded weapons are worth it on their own and I paid the original 5 dollars.
I'd also expect that if the switch does well that we will see more updates.

In reality, its actually one of the better and more thought out switches that I've seen and puts no road blocks or pay walls in the way of the early adopter and if anything makes it extraordinarily easy for them with the reward one gets.
I found the switch AVP did with the lock out of the side missions (which they later rectified to be fair) to be far worse and makes this switch seem inconsequential and have no obvious impact at all.

Even in game cash seems to be as easy as it was to earn, more or less, (can't concrete comment on gold bar earnings yet but they are earnable and seem relatively easy as far as I can tell so far) so those that resisted purchasing at the original price won't even have anything to complain about as far as I can see so far. It seems all pretty fairly balanced.
So if you haven't got it already, you've no real excuse now.

Edit. I found an even better aspect.
Played the daily missions. Accumulated a bit of gold.
But even better, the boss's dropped two of the gold bar priced crossbows and some upgrades for them.
I mean surely nobody can complain about that cause that seems very generous to me. I think that represented a 700 gold bar saving roughly. Can't remember exactly what they were priced at but about 350 gold bars or so each and earned them for nothing other than playing. That's very good, almost too generous.

I loved this game too. Now free to play. • should have just made a seperate version instead of screwing over your previous fans who paid for it, now with ads and a crappy free to play system...this is not what I paid for. Screwing over your fans who originally supported the game is just morally messed up. **** you to the developers. Shameful, Never supporting them ever again.
