you could always google words to replace dark, for instance Grim Asylum. edit: thesaurus.com/browse/dark
Total rubish and boring sliding the screen like looking at Pictures and u lot like it lolomg Grov up no One will be scade of that only 10yr Old
Me smell troll... It totally depends on the way they make it. If they manage to build up the suspense and feel, and then unleash it at the right moment, we're looking forward to a damn scary game.
Hoping for around mid February....but as with most productions I'm probably way off. The game keeps growing and ideas keep pushing the final quality we want to achieve....looking quite good though. I'll post some updated vids soon.
quick extra video preview before Xmas... Poorly filmed video preview of some progress on the game. Dark Asylum is still only a working title.. The video is a walk through of how the game plays in the first couple of minutes... SPOILER ALERT...as its shows how to play the game to turn the lifts power on. What do you think of the style of the game?
The gameplay doesn't look bad, though it is too early to tell. The sound is good, and is typically the most important element when conveying horror. The shadow is a nice trick, though it lacks plausibility in an elevator (for it to be effective, it would need to be somewhere that a shadow could actually move like that, e.g. a hallway or wider room). I do not like the BIG WORDS (such as the wake up instruction)--horror must be more subtle.
Dahak, thanks for the feedback. I think I agree with what your saying, I want to use the shadows in the game, but will no doubt change how they work as the game expands. And I'm changing the loading screen soon, so the 'WAKE UP' text can change...
I think the User Interface could use a little work: it's a little clunky navigating the menus and such.
i didnt like the idea for scrolling the screen but now the game looks pretty good and smart if it is all the way like this then it will be good imo
update... Thanks for the feedback, the whole game will have the scrolling screen idea, but some rooms won't have that function, i.e. if your in a coridor with lots of cells off of it, those cells (padded cells, creepy bedrooms) may just have a wide shot that you can click on to look at items. Just got an amazing photographer on board with some stunning work of real life abandoned asylums. So the imagery has just had a giant leap in realism. hopefully using some real life images, textures will add to the scary feeling given off by the environment. I'll post an updated video once a bit more of the game is developed.
That's the best reply to his comment yet... have a gold star... (Damn it....why is there never a 'STAR' smilie when you need one)
update and a new game to reference for horror themes. update on game production. We've started putting together the first floor of the asylum (technically the basement level). Using a new created graphics mixed with real life abandoned asylum photos. The whole menu system is going to be overhauled and simplified, so you can simply choose play (continue) or options (music volume, flickering lights on/off, nice and simple so you can jump straight into the action. Also found a game that from everything I've read about it echoes what we want to achieve so going start playing that tonight...in the dark with headphones on of course... The game is 'Amnesia - Dark Decent' and it sounds awesome.. http://uk.pc.ign.com/articles/111/1118326p1.html
Menu update... Preview of the updated menu, sorry no gameplay video previews for you just yet. I know its not super exciting but what do you think compared to the previous version?
