I have read specs and reviews. Most of which say that the ipad doesnt even play in 720p for videos. Yet read a reviewer today who says it plays them beautifully(but does not say "plays in 720p") So why is it that games have HD tags on them? Are these games played in HD? 1080p? Or does HD stand for something else?
"True" HD IS 1080p. 720p isn't really HD, so it's a bit of a misnomer when people say "iPadGame HD". Video does play at 720p, however, SD movies downloaded from iTunes will only play in SD(duh).
It just means the game is better quality than the iPhone version. Because atm you can upscale iPhone to ipad, but it may be pixely and not taking advantage of ipad capabilities.
They put the 'HD' after the game name, meaning that it's the same game, just in a 'Higher Definition'. It's not false advertising, depending on the view at which you look at it. However, the iPod touch 3G and 3GS can play 720p videos, and some say 1080p. You need to jailbreak it, of course, but there's no doubt that GeoHotz is on the iPad jailbreak as we speak.
Eh, yes Game Reaper, it can. I know you hate iPod touch Fans (well most do), but go ahead and search around in it. The iPhone 3GS can, if you jailbreak it and SSH a 720p video into vlc4iPhone, it'll work. Sure the battery life will go down a little, but it can still play it.
I dont buy the argument that the HD is Higher Def. If we played that game we could call a game HD and say it has higher def than the TV's in the 60's so therefore its HD. It is a little misleading and I hope they switch to XL. So the native output on the ipad is 480? I know the resolution is a bit low. Here is to hoping for the Wide Screen Ipad with true HD 2/3 generation. Honestly it seems strange that they do not output in 1080p. Apple is usually great with that type of thing. Then again its only a matter of time till 3d ipad
Erm... I read the first tweet I saw, and I didn't understand it. Rofl, I fail at coding or tech language.
I dont really get what the argument is. Sure you can nit pick the details and pretend to be confused out of principle but, you'd have to be living under a rock to actually be "stooped" or "misled". I'm not saying i even like the term HD (in fact i was sick of it before it came to Ipad) but it only took about 2min of seeing all the app titles to realize "Oh... i guess all the Ipad apps are using the term HD" Either way its equally annoying to a dev because there are already sites telling consumers that arent as savvy as the folks here "Make sure you dont buy games without HD int eh title". Kind forces us to have to include it or we get left out to dry...... which it's already bad enough apple chose to only allow you to view the precious "featured" apps on the Ipad app store. If you don't have an IPAD you may not realize you cant even go and browse something simple like the Puzzle category or even see what is new or top 100 from the ipad.
Oh yes, the unswerving truth from the intellectual minds over at iPod Touch Fans. The iPhone CANNOT play 720p video, the pixel resolution IS NOT HIGH ENOUGH. A 320x480 display CANNOT show 720p video, however, a 1024x768 display CAN.
Correction: You cannot display 720p video on the iPhone/touch as the pixel resolution of the device's screen is not high enough, but the hardware itself is powerful enough to output video @ 720p (and possibly 1080p) to an HDTV set. The CPU/GPU combo in that SoC is, in fact, powerful enough for that sort of thing.
and 480p is ED (enhanced definition). 720p is HD, as is 1080i and 1080p. The thing about the latter is that it is considered "true HD". For games it doesn't matter much as even the home consoles don't have games in "true HD".
