Sorry, but your just wrong on this one. Wesnoth is one of the most successful and active open source games ever and has been in developement for many years. There's actually very little that Wesnoth has in common with Advance Wars or Fire Emblem (except that they're all TBS games Go beat ANY of the Wesnoth scenarios on hard mode and come back and tell me its a newbie version of AW or FE. To have this game on the iphone is an amazing thing as it can compete with the best TBS games in its depth and quality.
I have a PS3 collecting dust because of my ipod touch. The variety of games and easy accessability have meant that I haven't used the PS3 in around 8 months or so...with games like Halo, GT racing, X2 Snoboarding, FIFA etc, I don't feel I am missing anything by not spending upwards of $100 per game on a PS3 title. I've spent well over $100 on ipod games and apps, but for that money I have over 120 choices in the palm of my hand.
Dont' feel ashamed. Many people that can't affrod the newer consoles or hate to play older games are in the same boat as you.
That's the best part of iPhone gaming. I've spent around $20 on games in the last couple months and I probaly have 400-500 hours of gaming as a result. I picked up Mass Effect 2 last week for three times the price. Money wise, the iPhone is golden.
http://www.pocketgamer.co.uk/r/iPhone/iPhone/feature.asp?c=18396 The thing is, I would like the PSP and Nintendo DS platforms to compete and to thrive and to produce new and better games and better future hardware. But as this article points out, if Sony and Nintendo do not take competition from iPhone OS seriously, they are in real peril. It would be a shame if in the future there were very few great mobile games coming from anywhere but the App Store.
I'm probably an odd man out here, but ever since I bought a PSP recently, my iPod Touch usage time has gone way down. Whereas I used to charge my iPod Touch once or even twice a day, now I need to charge it maybe every 3 or 4- day. The experience is just so vastly superior in the PSP. I thought Tiger Woods 10 golf was so good in iPod Touch until I played the PSP version and was completely blown away by the latter's quality. Yeah, I know the PSP version (officially) costs 4 times as much, but I was able to buy a used copy on ebay for only $15, which leads me to my second observation: people say PSP games costs $40 (true) but if you're willing to be a little patient and bargain shop around, you can often find used games for under $20 and IMHO a $20 PSP game is still a better deal than a $6.99 iPod game. Just my 2c, guys.
41 in March, 2 kids which is also part of the reason I don't play the console so much these days.....the pick up and play factor of the ipod stuff is so much easier now...
What's wrong with wanting to save some money or not having time to spend hours in front of a TV playing a console? I'm 26 and still have time to play full console games, but there is nothing immature about seeing the financial advantage of buying cheap iPhone games vs. the more expensive games on other systems.
I'm not saying anything about money. I'm saying that he'd rather spend $100 on iphone games instead of ps3 games... he has 2 kids , obviously I have less to worry about so I can spend more on games...
To each his own I guess. If you use Gamefly and shop smart you can get a lot out of $100 for your PS3. Still, you can get a ton of games for the iPhone at $100.
I got a PS3 & Xbox 360 and enough money to buy any games I want for them and don't cause I only buy Iphone games lately. There more fun and honestly PS3 & Xbox games are just so ho hum boring these days. And Wii just sucks it has a terrible game selection. Iphone rocks buy stock. I personally think the Ipad will suck it will merely be a novelty to own one, unlike the must have for the Iphone. Apple needs to come out with a far better version next year with HD, camera, Flash support and other stuff to make a true killer reader. A big iphone is nice but not enough to corner any market.
Anyway......... My point was not about money, or what is better (console or Ipod/iphone), it was that I personally find the ipod an easier option for playing on a regular basis. I also find that I play a wider variety of games than I would on the console.....I'm not questioning how or why others play what they play, just adding to the forum my thoughts. Thanks
I have an iPod Touch DS lite PSP Wii and xbox 360. iPod touch is my favourite. Haven't played PSP in over a year. Haven't played DS for a while and I never play Wii. iPod is dominant.
