the device is a fantastic gadget, and I also think I use it more than any other thing that I have-- but as I gaming device? Hell no.
Definitely. My iPod has completely replaced my DS Lite. I even sold it a few months ago to pay for more apps. It was just sitting on my desk collecting dust. The only other console that I own, a Gamecube, I haven't touched in over half a year. I was never big into console games but iPod games made me a huge gamer. iDevice games ftw.
Thanks, you just reminded me that I have a PS3. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to go any play whatever I left in the disc drive (I can't even remember the last game I played ).
Hmmmm? Should I spend my time playing MASS EFFECT 2 or Pocket God... or Eliminate? Hmmmmmm. Hmmmmm. God, that's a friggin' hard decision.
Sad But True (good song), I am the same way. All of the upcoming games that seemed promising, all disappointed. Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom is good though
IT'S BECAUSE YOUR IPHONE IS ALWAYS WITH YOU. THAT'S WHY YOU ALWAYS PLAY YOUR IPHONE MORE THAN YOUR CONSOLES. Geez!
I got MW2 played through 3 campaign missions and a few online games and promptly went back to my iPhone. Don't know why, I just am not drawn to console gaming. All my friends think I'm insane that I never play MW2
Same here, but thats probably because I have a damn Wii, maybe if i get a 360 i'll play a console more. I've clocked about 3hrs since January of Wii playing. I agree, if I want to sit back and relax, just pop in CoD MW2.
haha I bet a lot of us can agree Im stuck with a PS2, and I don't even think my controller has had batteries in it for the last 6 months
Well, honestly, I play my iPod touch more than my consoles (and I have all three of the biggies, 360, Wii and PS3) mainly because I can get away with it more with my wife! But I do enjoy a lot of my iPod Touch games so it's still a good deal. Honestly didn't expect that there would be as high quality stuff on the Touch before I got it.
I haven’t owned a console in MANY years, because driving and platformers don’t excite me enough, whereas first-person shooters are my favorite (and consoles with their awkward sticks and auto-aim training wheels are unsuitable for shooters—not when there’s a mouse to be had instead!) My all-time favorite game: Quake Wars on my Mac. That’s not to say I’ll never get a console, but the games that make me want to shell out money have been on the desktop mainly. So for me, the surprise is that I play iPhone games more than desktop games! Even at home! (Not mostly first-person shooters though. I might do that more if I had a faster model, but Eliminate is a little sluggish.) The reason is that it’s so convenient to just sit anywhere in the house and play. (And of course having a ton of fun games doesn’t hurt.) That means the iPad sounds pretty awesome to me!
I have a ps2 psp ds and 360. I hardly play my ps2 or psp. I play with my ds somtimes. I play my 360 but I do play with my iPod more. It's just all the games and how I can take my itouch with me all the time. So pretty much, I do play my itouch more than my consoles.
Nope. Simply because of the single fact that I will never be able to play a first person shooter as well as when I play with a mouse and keyboard. And plus... Mass Effect 1 and 2, Team Fortress 2, Left 4 Dead 1 and 2, Borderlands, Half Life, Gmod, Battlefield 1942, Vietnam, Bioshock 1 and 2... There's -no way- I'll ever love iPhone/iTouch games more than I love PC games. Keep in mind, I'm home a lot, and as well, I'm slowly getting into CADD programs for school, so my PC is my best friend when I need games or need a place to do work for school. But as far as consoles are concerned... I have a DS, and that's only for the homebrew. And I don't play as much, really.. Though it's nice for a handheld multiplayer thing, with people at school. No one is into iPhone games here. Been awhile since I've been on TouchArcade, and I picked up a few games (because of a good 50 bucks left over from Christmas. They sure are fun, I'll give ya that, but the multiplayer, voice chat and mods available for PC stuff will always make me love PC over iPhone. TL;DR: Yay PC, but iPhone's pretty good too.
You summed it up pretty well there! The iPhone is all about an endless stream of low price quirky games. Very few have the polish of a big console production, but again as you mentioned, it is so much easier to get in contact with the developers (often just 1-3 guys working out of their little apartment as a side hobby since most $1-5 games aren't really enough to make a living) and have some actual input in future updates of the game. Try that with EA. I mean, jeez, who exactly would you have to talk to if you wanted them to make some little tweak in Madden 2010? Sure you can report a blatant bug to Technical Support but what if you just thought of something that might improve play a bit? I often see it as my own customized Warioware with 100's of "mini-games". I can be landing planes one moment and then suddenly trying to spell the longest words possible only to end up playing a few game of pinball. I also agree the multiplayer stuff is pretty limited to comparing highscores for the most part but, as an antisocial person anyways, this is more than enough (realize I play these on an iPod Touch as I don't want my game platform to suddenly turn into a phone at some inopportune moment in a game).
So the conclusion is the hardcore of hardcore gamers think that the iPhone/Touch replacing consoles is lunacy. The rest of the casual crowd and non-gamer crowd loves the platform. Nothing new learned! I am not sure how strong the hardcore gamer crowd is these days in terms of %. The Wii and iPhone have inflated the amount of "gamers" significantly (no offense to the Wii, but 90% of the people in NYC I know who own one would not even consider another console or PC gaming, but they do play games on their phone). The casual market has BLOWN UP and this is where the iPhone and Wii can fill some gaps.
