Well, if you managed to grab iDOS when it was out, you can easily play all of those if ya want. I know it's not ideal, but I've managed to play all of my old favorites with relative ease. As for the AppStore, I totally agree. There really isn't anything like this available (aside from that Japanese Wizardry game). I had high hopes for "The Legend of Grimrock," but Almost Human abandoned iOS in favor of the PC. "The Quest" is incredible, but it's not party based, so it's not exactly the same. Excellent game though. It's one of the most deep and complete RPGs I've ever played. Definitely looking forward to seeing what Steve's next game is going to look like!!
Wow yeah all these was awesome! Spent hours n hours on these and lots of others. I was gonna ask if there's any other games on AppStore that are like dungeon master.. But you answered my question
If it's been submitted, it prob be release next week as too late to get it in for this weeks releases... Then again, last week we had some releases come out on other days besides the norm release day
Undercroft was kind of okay, but the locations got a bit confusing. Everyone talks about The Quest, but when I played that I really didn't like it. I have to try it again because so many supporters can't be wrong. Also, check out QuestLord by Eric Kinkead. It's a really fun, light-weight game in this style. Totally worth buying. Yeah, this one is a straight-up paid app. No IAP etc.
I enjoyed Undercroft. Took me awhile to finish it, but it was definitely worth the journey. As for The Quest, you really have to give a real go. It's slow starting, but once it gets its hooks into you your addiction will set in. Put it this way I had one quest that had THREE separate ways to complete it. And it wasn't even a major one. Very well written game. It's also got a TON of options on how you develop your character. It's along the same likes of the Elder Scrolls series.
Really wish you well with this game Steve and also great news that you could be making another one in this genre next.As you've played all the classic dungeon games Steve could you make any comment on the difficulty of Coldfire Keep compared to those classics? I prefer a bit of challenge in these sort of games but i know any sort of difficulty these days is classed as a bug.
To be honest, I find it really difficult to gauge the difficulty of a game I'm developing myself. When I play through the game myself, I find it fairly challenging throughout, but more of a "need to pay attention" kind of difficulty, where if you work through battles with some strategy then you should be fine. It's particularly important to make use of support spells if you have a party with magic-user classes, and I think that's pretty cool. I've played a lot of modern games where support magic was pretty unnecessary as fighter classes could just beat the hell out of anything they came across. I've also made a point of having certain areas that respawn occasional enemies so that players who like to grind and level up can do some backtracking, "looking for a fight" Feedback from our beta testers didn't indicate any particular concerns with difficulty, so I'm taking that as a positive.
I'm finally wandering into the Upcoming Games part of the forum and I'm excited for this release! Always willing to get more dungeon crawlers.
