The 1.1 update will have the chain fix and the new powerups. The update hasn't gone out yet since there is a lot of new code that was brought in from the iPad version that needs to be thoroughly tested with the iPhone release. What the power-ups do are top secret for now and will be hidden in the power-up overview page until you unlock them.
I'm very happy to announce the following! I woke up this morning to find that Chain Link Pro is now featured as Apple's Hot New Games in the mobile app store! Thanks to everyone here at the Touch Arcade because I know the positive feedback that you've posted helped it reach that point! As a way of saying thanks, I'll reveal the secret new power-ups in the next update here in this post, and only here, after I submit the update to Apple.
As promised, I'm only revealing the new power-ups coming in Chain Link v1.1 here at Touch Arcade. In-game, they will show up as ??? in the power-up overview menu until you unlock them. They will be unlocked after completing a certain number of quests. I'll reveal one new power-up a day until release. There will be a total of four new power-ups and one new mystery item.
Here's the Monday reveal of the next new power-up, the Ghost Chain. This makes a chain not collide with itself and takes up less room on the screen when it isn't moving.
HAHA mate excellent power ups! I love how you're putting them up every day. Just to clarify, this update includes the power ups and the star quest problem solution? When are we hoping to have this update with us? Congrats on the success!!! You deserve it.
Yep, the new power-ups are in the next release which will be submitted to Apple either late late tonight or tomorrow. The code is finished but I want to make sure everything is bug free. Star quest problem is also solved in the upcoming release, as well as the addition of new quests. I also made quests easier for new players to ease them into the game better and quests return to their current difficulty after you've completed 10 of them. There is also a sound effect volume control slider in the next release so people can balance the game's sound with their ipod music levels.
Really excellent my friend. I haven't played it so much recently because I had the top score globally for the only 2 modes I play which are arcade normal and static normal. But I've noticed I'm not on the top at the moment, purely because I would get a star quest and it would all go downhill from there. Expect to see me right at the top of the 2 modes I play within a few days of the update ;D You are what all developers should aspire to be!
I was actually interested in GeoSpark but after randomly bumping into this thread I'm definitely going to be picking this one up. The game looks fantastic. I'll post impressions and a review on iTunes once I end up making the purchase.
Chain Link Pro continues to be featured under the "Hot New Games" list and this morning it made iTunes's "New and Noteworthy" games list!!! The 1.5 update will be submitted to Apple tonight for review. Here's Tuesday's power-up reveal, Energize. This is the power-up that everyone will be excited for every time it spawns. It will energize the chain when collected, making the next power-up the chain collects more powerful. Here are a few examples: - Collecting the new shield power-up with an energized chain protects that chain from two collisions instead of one. - Collecting the invincible power-up with an energized chain makes it last twice as long. - Collecting the +2 shape power-up will add four shapes to your chain The energize state of the chain will be used up only if a power-up supports it. For example, energize doesn't do anything for the Ghost Chain power-up but you can still collect the Ghost Chain without losing your energize.
A chain can't pick up a duplicate power-up in general (for example, a ghost chain can't pick up another ghost power-up) so an energized chain can't pick up another energize until it uses up the first one. The best way of playing is to keep the energize power-up uncollected until a power-up spawns that you want to energize, then you pick them both up, one after another.
The 1.5 update was submitted to Apple last night (iPhone version only, iPad version had trouble with the latest SDK that I'm still working on, was up until 2am trying to work it out). Today's power-up reveal is the "Mega Bonus" that applies up to a 2x bonus to each shape in the chain. This is much more powerful then the old bonus that would only be applied to the head of the chain. If you use this with an "Energized" chain then the bonus becomes 3x. This is best used for very long chains.
That's some amazing turn around time from Apple, less then 24 hours later and version 1.5 is released! New in Version 1.5 • Four new secret power-ups • New quests plus easier quests for new players • Volume control slider in options to adjust game sound while iPod music plays • New obstacle to avoid in Expert and Hardcore levels (at stages 7+) • Artist and Title are displayed for in-game iPod music • Improved look to unlocking achievements and it interferes less while playing (semi-transparent) • Auto flip screen to support both iPhone landscape orientations • Fixed broken "collect x stars" quest
