I just have one... two questions, will turning the ships be quick or will there be a slight lag according to each ship? Also wil the ships be rendered so they seem to tilt? This also looks epic, if the gameplay and content are up to par it should be awesome! Great job so far!!!
Thanks! Glad to hear it Each ship has it's own handling characteristics: Acceleration, Maximum Speed and Turn Rate. They all turn relatively quickly though. I'll be trying to add tilting at some point. I think it should be cool, but it might just end up making the game look weird. Definitely on the list! As for content, the first release of the game will have the survival mode which is what I'm coming to call the "Prologue" of the Red Nova story. I plan on adding new game types and ultimately I want to add a series of missions like in Wing Commander or X-Wing as a future free update to the game but I need people to support this initial release if I'm going to have the resources to add even more awesome stuff. I'll be talking more about it later when I'm closer to release but I'm going to offer Red Nova on sale at $0.99 as an Early Adopter Sale. You get a cool survival shmup for a dollar, and if I sell enough copies I can support myself to work on making Red Nova even more awesome! In return you'll get a whole lot of free updates and new gameplay for a dollar. I know I'm just one guy working on this (for now!) in the evenings and weekends, but I can guarantee that if you give me the chance Red Nova will become even more epic. All I ask from you (the generic you reading this post, not just Wired360 ) is to keep the feedback coming in and help me spread the word about Red Nova when the time comes!
I just finished the fighter selection screen, at least to the point where I'm happy with how it looks (Click to see the full retina display size)
Oh hey! I almost forgot to mention my Super Awesome Mailing List Basically if you're interested in Red Nova I'd love if you could take a moment to sign up: http://celsiusgs.com/list.php If not, it's cool, I'll still be posting info here on TA but it'd be nice to know people are psyched about the game
Cleanup and polishing is coming along nicely. I'm also working on adding remote control support similar to what's in Chopper 2, because frankly it's freaking cool, and I think it'd work well on the iPad. Speaking of controls, knowing that virtual controls can be a bit of a sticking point, I've been working on making the controls in Red Nova as not-annoying as possible. I think I'll make a little video talking about them soon! I also finished up the game's icon over the weekend, and even if I do say so myself I think it's pretty cool! I could even be convinced to post it here, if there was interest in that sort of thing of course At that, I'll leave you with a new screenshot showing off the retina graphics as they are in-game: (Click to make huuuuge!)
Beta testing is starting soon, and I've got a few more things to announce yet, but in the meantime I wanted to share with you a short story I wrote to help introduce the game: Red Nova Short Story: "Test Pilot"
Hey everyone! Red Nova is going into beta shortly so I wanted to share a new video of the game, including a peak at some of the features that the game is going to have: Subscribe to the TouchArcade YouTube channel I hope you like it, and I'd love to know what you think
A sneak-peek at another awesome feature in Red Nova: "iOS Controller". Similar to the remote control feature in Chopper 2, iOS Controller turns any iOS 3.1+ device running Red Nova into a virtual gamepad for the game. It works over WiFi and Bluetooth. Subscribe to the TouchArcade YouTube channel
Beta testing is going quite well, and everyone seems to be loving the game so far, so that makes me happy Just wanted to leave a little preview of the powerups in the game, because what shmup is complete without powerups? (Click to enlarge)
This bad-boy is going out to my testers today (Click for Retina Size) Edit: oh yeah, this is what the texture looks like animated:
Finished texturing the last enemy ship for the game. This guy is not going to be pleasant, as my betanauts are soon going to find out muahahahaha
Some shots of the new enemy in action. It also has a new weapon type. I like to call this "Pressure? No, no pressure at all!" (Click to enlarge)
