To call this game a re-skinned Backstab is no more accurate than if you were calling Red Dead Redemption a reskin of Uncharted (or vice-versa). This is a whole new game whether they use the same graphics engine or not. Now if they were to use the same gameplay, plot, etc. then it would probably be justifiably considered a simple reskin of a previous title. But as I imagine, the setting is different, the gameplay will likely be different (hopefully), and the storyline will definitely be different. The arrogance of some people annoys me. It's like they will say things just to say it.
I think he meant the gameplay will be same as Backstab (that it would be an open world adventure mission-based game),not that it doesn't have a sword and "bullet" has a gun.
People believe that it is an open-world game that will use the Backstab engine and perhaps utilize a similar format. The Backstab engine seems to be riddled with bugs. Gameloft attempted to create more of a high-end graphics engine that they could apply to open-world games, but the results were mixed. The Gangstar engine seems to be more stable, but graphically it is subpar. That is why people are comparing this to Backstab.
"it would be an open world adventure mission-based game" - that doesn't exactly describe gameplay. I think my speculations as to why the gameplay would be different made much more sense. 'nuf said
I would still wait before we predict what it will be like. They have only just announced 2 other games. Doubt they will announce this for a fortnight at least. I am intrigued to the game though
No need to slam anybody or act like you're superior to everyone else alright. Sure it doesn't describe "gameplay" but I think you can figure out what he means. I agree that it will probably have the same structure as Backstab with an open-world and missions to guide you around. As for gameplay, yeah you make sense. It's called 'Bullet' so why the hell would there not be guns I think that's pretty much a given.
Correct. It looks like a Backstab experience, in the west. The above poster, who seems to be giving Gameloft FAR too much credit keeps me lol'ing at this thread. I am far from a Gameloft hater and own nearly every one of their iPad games (both gens of the tablet I've owned) - I want to like Gameloft games as much as the next person, however, they are often recycled in a lot of ways. They've stopped copying others and almost seem to recycle from themselves these days. They have some amazing games (Spiderman, MC2, Nova 2, Castle of Magic) and some not so amazing games... They reuse horse assets, landscape art assets, tree art, character skins... Nearly every one of their games incorporate assets where a setting can be interchanged with another. My point is this: they can get mechanics down like fast paced shooting and stable controls, they cannot however, nail proper stories or cohesive experiences that mimic anything close to the big league console games. That's the truth. This will not turnout like Red Dead Redemption (I have the 100% completion achievement). I will eat crow, if I'm wrong but I believe this will end up more like an objective based and western themed Backstab game.
Seems like your saying it'll be of the same genre as Backstab. We can't tell that yet. But I assume it will play nothing like Backstab.
Unless you have legitimate info regarding the release date of a trailer, please don't tell anyone to expect anything. And seriously, the only thing that this game and Backstab will probably have in common is an open world. And the game will probably use the same engine. Other than that, Bullet will have different gameplay mechanics, a different setting, and a different storyline.
They are cutting corners, in order to be cost efficient, in order to be able to sell these games at 6.99 a piece and still make a profit. Gameloft is notorious for riddling their game making process with shortcuts. Re-using engines, recycling assets, weak story elements, derivative characters, average at best voice overs, sometime repetive gameplay, often only 2-hours of single-player content per game. It's all done to keep down their overhead and control developmental costs. Anyone who considers Gameloft games to be console-quality, or who applauds Gameloft for high-level production values, obviously cannot see the forest beyond the trees. This is the very same point that I brought up in the MC3 thread when someone was short-sighted enough to claim that Gameloft games trump 3DS games in terms of overall production values. To make such an assertion is just stupidity.
Agreed. Gameloft's cutting corners is largely due to the devaluation of the app store. They need to keep down their costs to still make the 6.99 and still make a profit
That and the fact that they're rushing themselves in order to get twenty titles out by the end of 2011, as they said in that one press release a few months back.
I agree with you 100% Those individuals obviously do not own a 3DS. I ended up getting one on August 10 (price cut and ambassador program, too) - So far I have Legend of Zelda and Resident Evil Mercenaries. Anyone who thinks 3DS is a lame duck is flat out wrong. Both games have really awesome qualities and polished visuals. Ocarina looks stellar and dwarfs anything Gameloft has made in a similar vein. 3D, I used to think was a gimmick, however I opt to play with it on and actually prefer it in games. It's funny how time with the system changed my "it will suck compared to Vita and iOS" perceptions. Anyhow, on topic, Gameloft games really used to excite me quite a bit. Now that I've got a portable, an iPad 2 and a 360 - the iPad 2 games seem lacking, even just compared to the 2 3DS games... Gameloft is now kinda "meh". I never used to think this either. Sure the experiences are cheap, but I'm learning there's a lot more innovation coming from unknowns on iOS. Not the "casual type old stuff is new" like what's exciting Hodapp, but Warm Gun, Desert Zombie, Dark Meadow, Afterlife, Paper Monsters, etc... This rant makes little Sense and is all over the place - point is: iOS games rarely match a true portable gaming experience, I can say that now. Gameloft seems contrived and bland in their execution. I am thrilled about March of Heroes and MC3. I'm taking a wait and see. I'll play them and enjoy the multiplayer and await their inevitable and equally contrite sequels. But, 3DS has a lot coming that excites me lately too. Win. Win.
I'd love to see next dungeon hunter on this type of engine btw. i'd love to see ANY next dungeon hunter
I own as 3DS -- bought it on the first day, too --and think it's pretty much meh. This is not the place to go to deeply into it, but I'm grown weary of the console-envy arguments being regurgitated over and over by the likes of dumaz (and that you are now, sadly, parroting). I would love to come to one of these Gameloft threads and find information about the game, rather than tired rhetoric (either against or for Gameloft). Let's try to stay on topic, folks.
