I'm curious as to how folks (especially high scorers) are using the controls. Do you prefer using two thumbs rarely, at all times, or somewhere in between? I like that the controls are easy enough to learn but are more nuanced than they might first appear.
Am I the only one who watched that video, listened to that music, and thought these must either be the most accomplished shill posts in history or you guys are just crazy?
I primarily use two thumbs, but after you play for a while, you begin to ease up on either thumb depending on the situation. I'm really impressed with the controls, actually, because they allow for some really tight adjustments, which sometimes produce some insanely difficult maneuvers. I'm #5 and #8, last time I checked.
I use both. When I need two it feels akward to me. I had fun for a couple games, but for me it needs shooting. Would have made a cool retro astroids with dual stick move/shoot. HTML:
Or maybe it is a fun game, and you are just crazy. I actually think the game is quite fun, and I am digging the music. But that's just me.
Always use two thumbs to play, allows for more accurate control of the ship. And yeah, this is no Gears of War or anything but what it does, it does to perfection. Simple to play, hard to master. Basically the same draw as Canabalt.
I don't know if I'd call it a crap game, but not something I'd play more than a couple tries. For those that like chasing highscores, I can see some more appeal than it has for me. What I find extremely odd is how something like this (not a slam, I did have fun with it for a few min) gets a lot of hype while some other games that are really fun/polished get only a nibble of interest. Not going to push a different game in unrelated thread, but I'm playing another new release from around same release time that has very polished art and damn addicting and it's had like 3-4 people post to the thread. Odd to me, but hey, guess I'm not good at guessing the mainstream?
No, you're not the only one. I'm an old retro fan, but the video of this game left me underwhelmed and not interested in buying. Seems like a very simple game, and the graphics and music are beyond retro; they're archaic. Yes they're charming in a way - almost looks and sounds exactly like a 1st gen Atari 800 or Commodore 64 game. But I don't see much gameplay there. Even back in the 80's we had deeper, better looking games. I love Hook Champ, because it combines retro with interesting gameplay. I'm not really seeing that here, but maybe I'm wrong and I'd get it if I played it. I always try to give the benefit of a doubt.
Too many people dissing the game without having played it. I have played it and the gameplay is superb, in my opinion. If you were expecting Heavy Rain graphics or the music scared you off (although, I think it is excellent), that's fine, but there is nothing to gain by dissing a game you haven't played.
It wasn't my intention to diss the game. Actually I only posted because I found this thread interesting. The two posters above who at least somewhat agreed with me didn't sound to me like they were dissing the game either. And I can actually relate to both of their perspectives. I think it is an interesting discussion, and I don't believe anybody thus far has been uncivil. I'm actually tempted to get the game in spite of my impressions out of sheer curiosity, and I still well may.
www.micromusic.net there are people that like this music Doesn't matter if it's in a game or anything.
This game isn't getting the recognition it deserves. I find at least as addicting as Tilt to Live or Canabalt, and the music is awesome. I also today got a wallpaper unlocked, which is a really cool idea, and the wallpaper looks nice. Great game, but it needs more players! There's only 101 players on the "normal" level scoreboard. Something like 150 unique players on Easy. Also, feel free to add me as a friend in OpenFeint: crunc
Like Eco Punk But forget it. Especially these days, the TA writers are too busy reporting from the conference. And they forget about quite some fantastic games in the last weeks. Really pity.
Definitely not a forgotten game. Any game that gets front page coverage right before or during GDC won't last very long before it's pushed off the Front Page with all the news coming out of the event. It's better if the coverage comes after GDC so the article stays visible for (hopefully) a full day. I'm pushing for a full review though
This game has moved up to the top of my most played list. I'm sooo close to hitting 10k in normal mode, but not quite there yet. Currently at 26th in Normal mode (9510) and 17th in Easy mode (21449). I was in the top 25 in normal mode yesterday. Dang. One achievement I find to be almost impossible (aside from getting 20k in Normal mode , or perhaps completely impossible: scoring less then 100 points in easy mode. Has anyone done this? I did manage to get less then 200, but 100? You'd have to die within a handful of seconds.
@crunc hahaha, definitely possible ( both epic and <100 ), although nobody has gotten either yet (besides me that is) thanks for your support! I'm happy you are all enjoying my game
I also hope this gets some attention after the conference. The game is super addictive and the music is awesome. Maybe one of 3 iphone games that I always try to play with the sound turned on. Also having the leaderboard show on the menu screen is great. Not having to open slow-ass openfeint to see how you are doing has had me paying waaaaaay more attention to my ranking than I normally would have been. Good luck with it stfj, it is criminally unappreciated right now.
