You started 2 threads to ask this. http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?t=24285 Must be desperate And in any case you`ll need an invitation from the dev for beta testing.
Get involved in threads for upcoming apps that you're excited about. That's no guarantee, but when devs ask for Beta testers they definitely want people who are interested in their game.
ROFL. and you must have a mac i mean, you can get beta builds working on a PC, its just EXTREMELY difficult. how I managed, ill NEVER know......
?que? Betas are just Ad-Hoc builds. Standard .ipa (or folder of files) + .mobileprovision file. Works on Windows or Mac just as easily, as long as you give the dev your UDID and the dev knows how to compile an ad-hoc build properly. (It's a gigantic pain in the ass the first time, but once you've got it down it's easy.)
trust me, i went through hell to get the beta build to work on windows. ask any dev, they'll tell you about the wonderful stories of helping people TRYING to get it working on windows.
There are two reasons it doesn't work (assuming all else is correct) -- and this applies to Windows or Mac: 1. The dev didn't build it properly (doesn't have the proper certs/didn't use the correct build type) 2. The user didn't delete an old provision file off their device (in the case of failed first attempts) As long as it's built properly and the user doesn't have any old provision files and is installing the beta build properly, I've never failed to have a beta function as it's supposed to. If it isn't installing properly, someone's doing something wrong.
i just dont know anymore..... alot of the instructions were a breeze on my mac, but for a particular one, i couldnt drag the files into iTunes on my PC
The main reason betas don't work too well on Windows is because people use the default Windows program to unzip the beta. If you use 7-Zip or something similar instead it works fine. I've beta tested over 12 games and I've never had a problem when using 7-Zip.
That's odd -- that should be the easiest part. Could be that the files had unrecognized file extensions, the .ipa was corrupted, or the overwritten files maybe have the protect attribute set or something. Under average conditions though there shouldn't be any problems as long as the dev followed Apple's (overly complicated) procedures to generate ad-hoc builds.
Zip is zip. The algorithm hasn't changed in decades; it's fully cross-platform. 7zip (the format) is derivative of it but a different format. Now, if you're talking about people unzipping the .ipa (which is just a renamed zip file), then yes, you can run into difficulties there.
yep you need a mac to make the game usually but not to play it. ad hoc distribution builds work on windows itunes fine for me. saw an article about a dev xcoding on PC but it was all way above my head, so i got a mac mini, its very nice. google beta testing for iPhone or other such search strings.. i found this ibetatest.com Id also agree that being interested and making constructive criticism... reviewing existing titles on forums is good.. also try to break games, drive out of levels, put the game in unusual situations and be able to describe them well in bug reports... for a profession qa is a hard job.. as youll be playing potencially the same level over and over again for weeks. so you need to be able to look at stuff with fresh eyes after being jaded by it and remain subjective. good luck.
yeah, I've only had problems once with a beta using windows, if the files are set up correctly it is absolutely painless
Dude, there's no problem with betas on Windows... I've participated in about 20 betas and none of them gave me any problems at all... I've installed 19 of them by myself no questions asked and that other one time was also my first time. The real question that should be asked is this: what's the point of UDIDs? I accidentally installed a beta to my 2G iPod Touch that the mobileprovision file of the game only had my 1G's UDID... Care to explain?
