Nothing really comes close to PvZ in terms of creativity and replayability. Geodefense 1 & 2 are highly challenging so get that if you like it, I had a hard time just beating the first few levels. Fieldrunners is extremely slow-paced as it's the only TD game I know without the ability to fast forward (it's unlocked only after first playthrough, don't know why they made it like this, so beware as it's extremely easy to fall asleep during first playthrough). I never liked Sentinel 1-3 as it has very limited enemy types, and the interface is highly cluttered to the point that you have a hard time placing towers in the corners of the map since the damn icons are blocking it. Mach Defense has a terrible developer (IndieAn) who promised updates and bug fixes to Heavy Mach 2, but ate his words (check the app description, it should still say updates and bug fixes are coming, wtf) and abandoned the game completely to make Mach Defense. He recycles all his graphics for all his games and never makes anything new. I wouldn't buy any game from a developer like this since there's no chance it will be continuously supported or updated. Defender Chronicles takes a lot of grinding, if you want to unlock its RPG elements like armor and weapons, which I never really found any use for anyways. I got bored of it since there's no way I'm replaying the same map like 50 times to be able to afford some armor. It's poorly designed on the iPhone since the maps are way too large and screen is way too small, so you have to scroll back and forth to see what's going on in the entire map, which is highly annoying if you are attacked from all sides. IPad might be slightly better but you still have to scroll. Crashing and lagging on a 4th gen is basically fail. I suppose the devs expect people to have a 5th gen to run it smoothly? I mean what game doesn't run smoothly on a 4th gen? I checked the game and it's not like it has great graphics, probably just bad design on memory usage on the coders' part.
Wow, thank you for the in-depth thought, November's. You're right on with pretty much everything... I know the Sentinel games don't have much variety, and finding really good places to put your towers is sometimes a pain, but I really think that they're well made games, and worth buying if you're a fan of the genre. As for Dungeon Defenders... The graphics might not be SUPER GREAT, but I love em. I did just try the multiplayer, and did have slight lag... Which, you're right, should not happen with a 4th gen device. I mean, I bought my new iPod so I wouldn't need to deal with lag, and could play pretty much every game in the AppStore with no problems. I still really think it's a great game, but I don't play online much... Actually the only multiplayer game I do play is Bug Panic. So the slight lag with multiplayer doesn't bother me... And still recommend it to fans of TD and RPG games... But I will be having a little disclaimer when I do from now on... Also I'd like to thank the rest of you... I haven't heard of a couple of these games and am putting quite a few of them on my "games to get" list.
For a period I've liked Elementar Monster TD, after that I felt in love (and now I still love them) with Sentinel 3, The Creeps and Besiegement!
