Blocks Drop 2 Puzzle is a polyomino line clearing game that has been receiving a lot of playing time recently. We'd like to get your thoughts on the new gameplay elements.

    My honest review:
When I first played this, I didn't like this since the pieces made the game more difficult and frustrating. But by my third or fourth session, I started to develop some strategy and the game became more fun and challenging. The richness and complexity in the strategy makes it more rewarding. This design was by accident, and it makes the game more interesting then if we had all dominoes or all pentominos (5 - mino). It makes that other tetramino game seem like plain vanilla by comparison.

Example. When you're in trouble, you're thinking in your head "when is that domino piece gonna show up". Other times you're thinking "Man I need that L shaped pentomino piece soon". That brings up another strategy element. Do you put a small piece in the hold box, or do you put that long pentomino piece in there. You also have to plan ahead if you want to clear 4 lines at once, but it becomes easier.

I know there are a lot of players out there now, so share your thoughts and strategy. Are we destined to set the bar for polyomino type games? Or am I crazy and biased?

The game is free now so everyone can try it. Don't forget to go into the options and turn on score submitting.

I am confused. You are the developer, but you didnt like the game at first? You want to know if you set the bar for what kind of game? Never heard the term you used before...

So this game is like "the game that won't be named" but pieces can be anywhere from 1-5 blocks? If the game allows pentominos, isn't there a chance the player can clear 5 lines in a single move and if so is there a place for this in the stats?

Yes, I'm one of the developers.

When we designed the new shapes, we didn't really give too much thought into it. We threw up some random shapes on a board and picked the best ones. Of course using tetrominos is the most familiar to everyone. We could have used all pentominos (5 blocks) and called our game pentris or something similiar, but then everyone would have hated it. We could have also used some really and odd funky shapes too, but we didn't. I decided to balance the gameplay by having a shorter piece for every longer piece I used. Like I said, we picked the pieces, put it into the game, and released it without playtesting it too much. On my first playtest, I thought no one would like this. But I've been proven wrong judging by the amount of people who have downloaded it. Yes, it's a free app, but there's a high percentage of repeat players. Sure there are also some who don't like it and were expecting something a little more familiar.

If you know your latin roots, then the prefixes poly-, tetra-, pent-, etc. should be recognizable to you. The most familiar mino is the domino. A small percentage may also know of the 4-mino since it's been used in a popular puzzle game. A 4-mino is called a tetromino. Very few know what a polyomino is, but hopefully you can figure it out now. There is currently no popular polyomino type game. So will our game popularize and trailblaze a new puzzle game type?

    LordGek,

Our game is a line-clearing game. You can dl it yourself if you need more details. No, people cannot clear 5 lines at a time. Our pentominos are L shaped so it's impossible. The only way to clear 4 lines at once is to use this L shaped pentomino.
