[yQUOTE=txag2005;871737]I'm not trying to start stuff, but state an opinion. If everyone wants to see the iPhone raise up in quality, it needs to begin by no longer accepting the mediocre trash Gameloft releases as the top quality on this platform. Put money and support behind GTA: CTW, which is a REAL quality game. Gameloft does NOTHING positive for this system.
By being so unequivocal and extreme you are showing how facile your argument is.
By being so unequivocal and extreme you are showing how facile your argument is.
No...none of their games are original...most are complete shameless rip-offs....and there is a well known lack of support for titles after release (maybe a couple updates but that is about it). They are all about quantity, not quality. Compared to other app store games they may look and feel great, but compared to similar gaming platforms, Gameloft games simply do not match up. Yet, people on here gush over them constantly, when the simple fact is, their games are just not very good.
iDevices are worthless, yet you take the time to post over 100 times on a forum about them. Either you're a joke or you need to spend your time more efficiently. How can it be fact they aren't good? The world doesn't conform to your opinion. Good is subjective, and your definition is apparently different than mosts'.
To say Gameloft has only given us rip offs is insane to me. Gameloft has pretty much defined how fps controls should be. They've also shown the big game developers there's a market, and you can make a game with smooth controls and slick graphics. Even if you don't enjoy there games you really have to give them credit where credit is due. On topic, I think MC:S and Skater Nation are the best. I really looked forward to NOVA but found myself extremely disapointed with the single and multiplayer game play. MC:S was one of the few fps's I played all the way thru. Plus, the multiplayer is great now that it works. Skater Nation has a loooooot of replay value too. In my book, it's the only real skateboarding game...Touch Grind is more of a neat gimmick to me.
That's not the point I was trying to get across and I guess I used a poor choice of words. Here is the deal. I like my iPhone, in fact, I love it. I use it constantly every day and think its great that there are gaming capabilities as well. With that said, I, along with many others on here, would love to see the iPhone/iPod/iPad move more and more towards being a major player in the handheld gaming market. The iPhone is a mobile phone, but we want to see iDevices move past just being in the mobile gaming market. That is where my issues with Gameloft arise. Compared to other mobile gaming devices, iPhone games, especially Gameloft developed/produced games, are top knotch. When you look past just mobile gaming market and look at the handheld market with the PSP and DS, Gameloft games are average at best. They have every right to continue to produce all the iPhone games they want, but I just feel that for iPhone gaming to continue to evolve, it needs to move past Gameloft as being the pinnicle of what the platform has to offer. That isn't going to happen until we as consumers demand better quality, more polished and deep gaming experiences on the iPhone. GTA is a perfect example of what it possible and something that Gameloft likely will not be able to reproduce (compare Gangstar to GTA...it isn't even close). We need better developers working on the platform and gamers like us demanding better products. So see, I'm not just some idiot rabid fanboy or troll. So please stop making those claims.
There is NOTHING "mediocre trash" about games like avatar, assassin's creed 2 (which IS a Gameloft game, by the way. look on their website), Driver, Nova, and GT Academy, among others. Avatar was developed with James Cameron, and thus was an authentic movie game, not a rip-off. It had beautiful presentation, highly-polished gameplay, and a very enjoyable mechanic. Driver was a port, but one that everyone appreciates. This is a positive thing that it does for the system. People WANT these ports. Nova is a shameless Halo ripoff, but I bet 10 bucks that 99 percent of people on here agree that they're glad Gameloft did it. It's technically impressive, and genuinely fun to play. GT racing has great graphics, very decent gameplay, and is a wet dream for people who love sheer garage size. GTA: CTW is most certainly a better game than all of these, but that by no means makes Gameloft's games useless.
I don't doubt people enjoy these games, but like I said I have some major issues with Gameloft and feel that despite some positive affects, they really could potentially hold back this platform. It just seems like they pump out games with formulas and gameplay mechanics that seem to work on other systems, do minimal support and move on to the next project. I guess it's the same feeling that people have about EA and Activision on the home consoles. I felt the same way about EA for a long time until the last couple years when finally started to publish some original IP's and I just feel their game quality has improved from 4-5 years ago. Gameloft gives me the same feeling. If Gameloft put time into a great original IP that didn't seem like a complete ripoff, then I'd change my tune, because that would be good for the platform.
Assassin's Creed 2 is was developed by Ubisoft, not Gameloft. Gameloft created Assassin's Creed 2 for the mobile platform, but not for the iDevice.
