Battle for Wesnoth was chosen as the Daily App on the huge site The Unofficial Apple Weblog! http://www.tuaw.com/2010/06/14/tuaws-daily-app-battle-for-wesnoth/
Congrats Kyle, This game is awesome. I am still very early on in the campaigns but loving every minute of it. As someone else mentioned, some form of completion status would be awesome. I love all the campaigns you added. Keep it up.
Kyle, Amazing game - I thought it was highway robbery when I got this game for .99 on the iPhone, I couldn't fathom the pricing... but didn't realize it was a sale. I'm pleased to see you have it selling for a more reasonable price now. I think this could sell for 9.99 easily with the amount of content, although I guess for the iPhone that might scare peeps away. In any case I felt bad so I bought the iPad version as well! =P Best of luck with the app! Keep the updates coming! Any new races in the pipeline? Best,
You guys are lucky for getting this game for $0.99. I personally find the price a little steep, especially for a port of a free, open-source game. These type of games are usually a hit or miss for me, so I'm planning to try out the Mac version first to see if I like it or not.
Hi - I'm wesnoth's art lead. No, we (as in, the core open-source wesnoth team) are not adding any new races, however, we're doing a major push to improve the existing animations. Expect to see full walking+standing animations, for everything, get added over the next year or two. There are of course prospects for potential races to be added into the main game, but the contributors who want to add them have to make something of the same quality as the main game, in a consistent style with the art of the main game, and with equivalent animations to the main game. There have been several dozen attempts who have gotten "part of the way" there, but as of yet, none have gone all the way. They also have to fit into the setting of the game - for example, no matter how well someone makes a futuristic mecha faction, we're not putting it in a tolkienesque world. Most of the user-made factions (which are NOT in the main game) right now are a godawful mess of conflicting art styles, and unanimated sprites. Wesnoth has set itself apart from the generally terrible state of indie/OSS games by being very selective about what we do or don't include in the main game. We've still got some cruft from our early days in the main distro (esp in terms of portrait/story art), but we're gradually flushing that stuff out.
Battle for Wesnoth HD made CNN! http://www.cnn.com/2010/TECH/gaming.gadgets/07/14/top.ipad.games/index.html?iref=NS1 But, they got the price wrong. It's a bummer, as I'd love to see that price again because I didn't have my iPad during the sale. Anyway, congrats on the honorable mention.
I was recently interviewed for Electric Playground on G4 about our latest game Zentia (www.zentiathegame.com), and in the process, they asked me to do a small bumper for another show. They asked me to talk about anything I've enjoyed recently, so I talked about Wesnoth on the iphone! So free press for you Kyle! Unfortunately, I have no idea when it'll air.
No problem. It's a great game. I just finished playing the ooze campaign last night. Then I went back to choose the other path (played the Good choice at the end, so now I'm doing the Evil choice) - heh, good stuff. Oh yeah, and definitely looking forward to Shadow Era - looks fantastic. A coworker of mine who plays MTG fairly religiously said SE looks just like the WoW TCG. I haven't played that before - is that right?
Ah, thanks for letting me know. http://westnoth.kylepoole.com should now redirect properly to http://wesnoth.repositoryhosting.com/trac/wesnoth_wesnoth/
Battle for Wesnoth HD was named as one of the top 25 games for iPad by Gamepro! http://www.gamepro.com/article/features/214682/25-best-ipad-game/
Or request to have a sale again... lol I wish you could upgrade your game to the Ipad version. I need more jobs.
