I'm not denying it's worth every penny. I'm making a point about reasonable expectations of ios game prices.
I think the point most of us who own and appreciate BA at this price are saying is that it is not the typical IOS game, this is a full PC wargame that we are fortunate to have on IOS and be able to enjoy on the couch or wherever the iPad goes. Whereas those $.99 or even $4.99 games are shallow cut down light games with not much depth. I'm glad the price is not dropping, as I don't think BA is competing with those light IOS games. Looking forward to Panzer Corps too.
What more do people want? That's easy to answer: Great Battles Medieval for iPad! Iain said they expected to release it in June but there's only 8 days left! In all seriousness, the price is well worth it and I have no hesitation about recommending it. If the price point is putting anyone off, they can go to the Slitherine site and download the free demo of the Mac or PC version. Until relatively recently, turn-based strategy games didn't seem to be well represented on the App store. That's begun to change, thanks in part to Slitherine, and I'm happy to support them by buying their games. If developers find that they can't sell a game for more than 99 cents, then games will pretty quickly be geared to the lowest common denominator.
Oh yes. You're quite right. There are a number of games that Slitherine have announced for iOS, and I'm quite looking forward to them all (come on, Panzer Corps)! Idea for people looking to save some money: keep an eye out for discount iTunes gift cards on Walmart and/or Best Buy. Search for that on Google every now and then and check those sites. I recently bought a $100 iTunes gift card for $80 at Walmart (online). They email you the code immediately, you plug it into iTunes, and boom! $100 in your iTunes account. Now, if you do that, you can look at every iTunes purchase as having been made at a 20% discount! --DotComCTO
We are definitely looking at games we can bring to the portable devices now that it is clear there is a goodly number of players who really want and enjoy them. We're actually working hard to try and bring a full gamut of games across, and so we think people will be pretty excited going forward. For BA, I am hoping that we can implement (finally! we have been planning for ages!) our invite system soon. This will allow you to get a friend to download a demo version, but have you invite them to a MP game so you can show them the ropes (or beat them senseless with Tigers - it depends on how close a friend they are I guess ). So all pretty exciting. Cheers Pip P.S. Check out Iain's Twitter feed for some news on GBM on the iPad
Word! Well is about time!! can't wait! Thanks as always for the continued improvements on Battle Academy and for keeping us posted. Keep up the good work!
There's a lot of older games that would work well on iPad, if only the people who now own them would realize that. I don't know who owns the MicroProse properties (Hasbro?); I think that SSI is now ultimately owned by Ubisoft, so I doubt we'll ever see those games again. At least Harpoon is being actively developed, although apparently not for iPad.
Hi guys, Another update is now available in the app store! Fixes and changes in v2.05 (12th July 2012) Balance fixes and updates to multiplayer maps Bug fixes and improved feedback Bug fixes for server messages on all platforms. Fixed bug when cancelling force selection upload causing premature game end Fixed MP version login bug on iPad Added information on redownloading expansions on iPad Enjoy and please remember to review the game after the update - it really helps! Thanks
Just wanted to say thanks for hosting the single/multi-player user content. The PC users created some really fun campaigns to play.
Glad you are enjoying the game, and the great campaigns that people have built. We have 2 more sets coming super-soon Cheers Pip
And a new replay capability to let people replay the replay in a multiplayer game, right? RIGHT???? Don't make me come over there to straighten you guys at Slitherine out! --DotComCTO
The game cost $20. It is a complete game, and you can use all the user generated content in addition to all the built-in content (and there's quite a bit). Any additional campaigns you want from Slitherine can be purchased if/when you want to do so. You don't *have* to buy those campaigns for the complete game. There's a ton of content without it. --DotComCTO P.S. ...and yes, I understand where you were going with the pricing comment. I just wanted to point out that anything beyond the original purchase is completely optional.
I was indeed talking about new FREE user content which is downloadable from within the game. There are at least 4 campaigns ready or nearly-ready for release. There are also a number of new expansion packs in various stages of production and these are of course, as has been said, entirely optional. They help to maintain the continuous work improving and adding to the engine (e.g. the next update includes much enhanced AI, the ability to download 'beta' version from content creators' own sites if you wish, and much more). Cheers Pip
Hey Pip - regarding the, "and much more" comment, could that please include the multiplayer 'replay the replay' feature? Please? Pretty please?! --DotComCTO
