Andre Dawson was elected to the hall of fame today. Roberto Alomar, the best second baseman ever to play the game, was left off, as was Bert Blyleven. Andre Dawson, was not a bad player, but there is absolutely no way that he should EVER be regarded as a hall of famer. Andre Dawson's career batting average was .279, Roberto Alomar's career average was .300. Andre Dawson had on OBP of .323, not only is that pathetic, but for someone with a stat like that to enter the Hall of Fame is absolutely ridiculous. Bert Blyleven was left off again, this time by 5 votes. This is likely because he has "only" 287 wins. Had he won 13 more games, he would have been in the Hall years ago. Bert is 5th in major league history in strikeouts, 9th in shutouts, he pitched over 240 innings for 12 seasons, and pitched 260 inning in 9 of those years. Also, you have to keep in mind that he played for some god awful teams, including the Cleveland Indians from 81' to 85'. He also threw a no hitter in his career. I think there definetly should be something done about the writers that are voting these players in. Last year, Jim Rice was sent to the Hall, this year, Andre Dawson. Absolutely ridiculous.
Well, all I can really say is what year aren't you disappointed with the HOF voting? It's a flawed system that favors... well, favortism. I try not to get upset over it anymore, but I totally understand what you're saying. What I'll disagree on though is that I think Andre Dawson fully deserves to be in the HOF. Besides the on paper stats, I think him coming back from a knee surgery and then performing like he did pushed him up into that upper class. But it's still debatable, and always will be. There's dozens of others who AREN'T in that should be, and plenty that ARE in but shouldn't be. The biggest crime however is Roberto Alomar. He really should be in there already. Omar Visquel is probably my favorite ball player of all time, and there's really nothing more beautiful than watching those two make exchanges on a double play ball. Like a frickin' baseball ballet. He'll get in someday though, just have to be patient and ignore how the voting goes each year. What's your team, anyway?
Are you really that ignorant? They have their Spring Training in Dunedin, half of the teams play their Spring Training in Florida.
I can except Andre Dawson, as he was extremely productive during what was essentially a dead ball era. Alomar and Dawson were different types of hitters. They may also be making a statement by electing a power hitter who, as far as I know, was not suspected of useing steriods.
