Ok i saw this thread and thought what a great place to start now please here me out. For about six months i have been asking friends if they would want to create an app even if its just for pc to start off with but thry are never bothered, now i have never made an app but, i have been playing games for ages and have come up with some great ideas. If i were to be hired i would work for free because 1. I wouldn't do any technical work and 2. I just want to be in a team If i am to br hired i suggest you hire me as type of person with a different job, not like the roles you had stated before I also would make gameplay videos and maybe trailers. OVERALL: i would definantly benefit you because im free and would help advertise your game and come up with great ideas P.s. What type of game where you think of e.g. 2d, 3d
@Liam2010 - It's not so much the free help i would be worried about but just the sheer fact that in these kind of collectives where there is no director saying which direction to go then it always ends up in this grey uncool mass apps. The ones that could have been cool if certain areas had been pushed.
another problem is thoose collectives are usualy founded by the guy with the "idea" and not the guy who actualy create them.. so quite often you see catfights between them here and there.. i had my share of such stuff last decade with different mod teams so every project needs a boss one who makes the last call, may it be right or wrong.. the descision needs to be made so the project can continue.. else it will stall and then it usualy dies.. thats the way why money is interesting.. the others do it to get paid.. if they have fun while being paid thats a bonus.. but at least people are interested to finish the stuff so they get paid.. and if you pay them there is no discussion who is in charge. @liam : if you read a bit around this section of the forum.. you'll notice that having ideas is not worth anything, except you can implement your ideas yourself. possible all of you "ideas" guys should open a thread and exchanging your ideas.. write your idea of a game as detailed as you can in the public and who knows maybee someone will read it and will be interested to work with you to create this idea into a real game.. keeping your ideas locked up in a drawer.. well usualy doesnt get thoose ideas anywhwre..
I totally agree. Ideas can always get better. It is my belief that there should be two stages when conceptualising a product regardless of industry. Brainstorming - Anything is possible and technical specifications should be your main concern. It's all about direction and staying flexible to inspiration. This fase is usually enormously fun but also very tiring. Focus - At this point you should have alot of different ideas going in many different directions. Now what you want to do is cherry pick the best ideas and concentrate it down the just the best. This part can be hard to make all the pieces fit. In general you end up with discarding many interesting ideas. But if they don't fit, there is nothing to do about it. Now with a great idea you just need to finish the project It might be nessecary to go back and redo the whole conceptualising process if you find a major flaw in you idea. It hurts but trust me it is much better to do it now than later.
the coding reality All of people have alot of great ideas. I see that in the forum where I downloaded my tools to make iphone games from. There is usaully 50-60 people who say Iam going to make an iphone game. When they start programming they ethier give up or make something much less than what idea they started with. Only 3 developers out of 50-60 active members have made an iphone game on game editor forum. My point is this its real easy to have this or that idea if you dont know what it takes to actually program it. I have plenty of ideas but have to face reality. Most people can think of things they havent seen on the iphone but seen on console. Thats not really ideas but wanting one device to perform what another device does.
