Thanks for adding me to twitter, I started the account a few weeks ago so there is hardly any following at the moment. In regards to the release date it will be submitted this month to Apple.
A 3D portrait render of the Art Thief with security lasers in the background. The soundtrack and stingers(musical effects) are all classical mostly from Romantic era (approx. 1850 - 1900). The gamer will though be able to choose a stealth theme instead which uses a more modern Oceans12/Bond like soundtrack. Game modes will be Casual which allows the player to walk through the museums and finish the game without any security systems being visible, Easy which uses only static security systems and Regular which enables all security systems including guards, robots, security doors and scanners. Online Leaderboards will be scored on how much time was left the thief completed the robbery, one leaderboard per museum. One game mechanism that is novel in this type of game is the fact that the gamer will have to flex his memory more than usual. Keycards that the thief needs to open doors and disable certain security systems cannot be removed from knocked out guards so their codes have to be memorized. A good player can quickly run through museum if he can memorize a number of keycodes at the same time, giving him an advantage. Another game feature is that the museums are difficult to navigate, and not only because of their size and inspite of a dynamic map being available. Security doors will have to opened, elevators activated, robots deactivated, etc. The thief cannot walk through a corridor knocking out security guards at will. If a guard spots the thief then it is game over, not only that but if a guard sees evidence of a thief in the museum for example another guard lying knocked out on the floor then the alarm will sound. So even though a player could choose the Casual difficulty and just walk around the museum admiring the view it is certain that the Regular gaming mode will provide a difficult and novel challenge for any gamer.
Sounds great! Do you have a gameplay video? I'd really like to see how it looks. I remember you posted one for the original non-HD game if I am not mistaken...
I'll post a gameplay video in the next few days. In the meantime I'll be posting a few more screens and info over the weekend.
Gameplay preview from the Van Gogh level: Subscribe to the TouchArcade YouTube channel Recorded with an iPhone so the sound is a bit low.
I'm just curious about the copyrighted painting reproductions. It looks like you are using scan of real paintings. Are you sure you have the right to do so? JC
Yes. Copyright expires 50-70 years after the artist's death. Works created before 1923 are also in public domain, so although Picasso for example died less than 70 years ago the works I display in Art Thief are from his Black period in 1907-1908. I couldn't create a level for Jackson Pollock though, his art is too recent.
A lot of features still being added based on feedback received. I'll post a few screenshots or a new video this weekend.
Interesting...seems a lot more elaborate than the original iPhone version. Looking forward to the release!
Whatever happened to this? I've been looking forward to it, but there hasn't been any more news about when it will be released...
Work interfered, but the game is still being actively developed. I promise it will be worth the wait.
