Just thought I'd mock up a few idea of which existing games and game types would work well on the iSlate/iPad. I reckon RTS, simulation, turn based strategies, tower defence, point and click adventures and hack and slash games would work even better on the iSlate than the iPhone. WarCraft 3 Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos (War3 or WC3 or RoC) is a real-time strategy computer game released by Blizzard Entertainment. Broken Sword: Directors Cut Broken Sword: The Shadow of the Templars - Director's Cut is the fifth title in the Broken Sword series, a remake of the original Broken Sword, and was released on the Nintendo DS and Wii in March 2009. It has been submitted to the App Store and will be available to iPhone and iPod Touch users by the end of the month, and the developers have expressed interest in bringing it to an Apple tablet. Europa Universalis III Europa Universalis III (EUIII) is a grand strategy computer game by Paradox Interactive. The original game (without expansions) starts in 1453, right after the Fall of Constantinople, and continues to 1789, just past the beginning of the French Revolution. The player controls a nation and handles matters concerning war, diplomacy, trade, and the economy. Fieldrunners Y'all know this. Diablo 3 (lol) Diablo III is an action role-playing game in a hack and slash and dungeon-roaming style, currently in development as the third installment of Blizzard's Diablo franchise. Sims 3 The Sims 3 is a strategic life simulation video game in The Sims franchise, originally created by Maxis. Escape Velocity: Nova Escape Velocity Nova (a.k.a. EV Nova or EVN) is a computer game by Ambrosia Software, in collaboration with ATMOS. It is the third game in the Escape Velocity series of space trading & combat games.
do you know how is to play warcraft 3 whit touch hand ...... maybe if you connect a mouse or a pad ... ?
This made me realize that the sims 3 would play really well on a tablet. I think it would be cool if you could connect your ipod touch or iphone to a tablet via bluetooth and use it as a controller for the tablet.
Should be pretty easy, any game like WarCraft 3 that controls primarily via. mouse clicks, drags and keyboard shortcuts should be ideally suited. The clicking and dragging is done with your finger and you can simply tap the already on screen buttons corresponding to keyboard shortcuts as is the case with WarCraft 3. So if you want to move a group of units, for example. Click and drag a selection field around the units, that selects them, then click the "move" command in the bottom right, and click wherever on the field you want them to move. RTSs are severely limited by the size of the iPhone screen but touch controls are perfectly suited. The tablet should be better for RTSs than the iPhone or iPod Touch and if the internals of the tablet are what they're supposed to be, the machine should comfortably run WarCraft 3 too. .. Plus it's already built for OS X. Make it so Blizzard!
Even on the iPhone, the accuracy is horrible. I usually end up sliding my finger too or to short. NOVA's playable, but there's no way I could get the shots I get on my xbox. So... I'm playing a game on a screen, while controlling my character with an entirely flat object... the buttons, how would I know which buttons are where?
Would be funny if you could use your iPhone as a controller and play a game on the tablet at the same time.
It was only a suggestion as to how they could put an FPS on there. I'm sure they could come up with a control scheme that would lessen the problem of not knowing where buttons are, such as a touch-anywhere joystick or double-tap to fire. I dunno. I guess we'll have to see.
But then that ultimately destroys the concept of having an iSlate in the first place. What's the point of using an Xbox or PS3 controller to play on your iSlate when you can play them on your TV, which is a lot bigger.
Here is the thing, it used to be the case that their was an IP dotted line between hand-held, console, pc, casual etc. That line is evaporating, we are on the cusp of a new wave of gaming. Make a good iPhone game that everyone loves? Port it Make a good XBLA game that everyone loves? Port it Make a good FaceBook game that everyone loves? Port it Make a good PS3 game that everyone loves? Port it Make a good iSlate game that everyone loves? Port it..........no wait, Apple are going to release an emulation SDK, so you just need to port the art.
I can't see FPSs being particularly suited to the slate, but hack and slash yes. Think of the Diablo control scheme, it basically boils down to "click on skill" "move to your mouse-click" and "tap on the enemy" - perfect for a touch screen.
That'd totally suck. Then we'd just end up with a ton of games that probably play far better on other platforms. The "iSlate" needs high res games made with multi-touch specifically in mind, otherwise it'd just a desperate attempt at crappy gaming.
