This move has right pissed me off. Seriously, I am genuinely mad with Apple right now. It's the iPod Click Wheel Games chop all over again.

You know all the work we have put in to out 32-bit culling thread & News item?

Well, one of the back up plans was to download them to iTunes (desktop) to keep. If an app developer decides they no longer want to keep their Apple dev licence, their apps get removed from not only the store, but your purchased list too. Well, with a backup, we could just sync them over to our 32-bit devices right? Not anymore.

Apple have just removed the iOS store from iTunes desktop with iTunes 12.7.

Apps? Not listed showing in iTunes.
    Updates? Not updated in iTunes.
Connect your device? iTunes doesn't show a single app (not even the file sharing feature for supported apps).

So, what does this actually mean? Well, those downloaded games are now useless. There's no way (in iTunes at least) to sync those backed up apps back to your device.

Your folder of downloaded apps is still on your computer. They're just useless files.

This move coupled with the 32-bit culling is literally banishing games that are no longer on the App Store.

I'm currently dumping them to an external hard drive in the hope that one day there'll be a way of using them. Though I doubt it.

    Okay,

Should have done this sooner. I'll not delete or edit that first post for prosperity.

I went searching after posting & found this page. Seems we can drag items from our computer to the device (although this feature isn't actually working for me at the moment).

    This does of course mean;

[A] We'll need to remember the app by title rather than recognise the icon
If an app is (finally) updated to 64-bit, we'll not actually know or be prompted via iTunes

So, still not perfect. Not great at all. But not quite as 'final nail' as first thought.

So the only way to keep them is to have a working iOS device with the 32-bit app, that's it?Well, that's exactly what I thought.

I just installed apps from the app store onto an iPad air2 using the previous version of iTunes on windows 7. Ios10.3.3
Worked fine, maybe try later on ios11 but don't see the point as yet.

Different note BGII:EE just been updated to 64 bit. When their other two games are updated I'll be a happy man.
Tried to post this as a new thread, won't let me#

unless they're on your Device you cannae get them even if you've got them. First they came for game center and i didnae speak up as I thought it was all a bit of misunderstanding, then they came for my old apps, and i cannae be bothered any more.

Yeah i heard about this happening to itunes. I wont be installing it !

Got an old ipad 2 so i went through my list of apps which wouldnt work on my iphone 6 ios 11 and installed as many as i could to my old ipad. Its frustrating i cant have these on my phone (Surely Apple could create some sort of '32 bit emulator' but there we go.

Have all the old games on my ipad and backed up as many .ipa files as i can on my home PC.

I'm an 'app dipper' so i tend to go in and out of so many apps i have on my phone (256 gig) but i'm gutted i cant play some of my old old favourites. Shame the devs wont update them but obviously if they're not making money theres no point. Think thats why its so important people buy games rather than wait for price drops/promo codes, help the devs out. If their games are successful they'll do updates for sure

No, no... I mean how does one transfer videos, let's say, from their PC to VLC on iPhone if there's no more file sharing option available anymore?

I have a new iPhone 7 I was waiting to activate. I guess now is the time, that way I can let my old phone remain as a 32 bit app holding spot. Just in case I feel like going through some of the campaigns in Wesnoth I have not yet played.

I think the only solution is to keep a dedicated computer with old version of itunes. For goodreader (that I use everyday), I use ifunbox which works even if you are not jailbroken for the itunes file sharing folders.
Apple sucks, I am very angry at them because of all the money I spent these 5 last years (at least 5K €)
for the itunes purchase list, I kept preciously my mails with the invoices. My advice is to send to Apple a refund for each of the purchases. (They will be flooded).

Missed you guys ! Group hug ! ;)

I could have kept with ios10 but i must admit i did love the look of the new app store in ios11 so knew i was going to update. Always thought itunes has been pretty crap for years so i rarely update that, day by day i'm slightly losing my 32 bit app-OCD but its still quite painful ;)

I know trying to go back from say ios11 to ios10 is near impossible, but surely you can look on the web and re-install an older version of itunes ? Would that work ?

I still think at some point in the future there'll be an iphone app emulator. If you had said to me in the 80's there'll be an emulator to play these old arcade machines i would never believe you (MAME). I'm surprised Apple have done this as i thought they would love to preserve (ios) gaming history as its a huge shame so many old classics are lost to many people

it's harder to do with a mac as iTunes is updated with the OS. I tried to get the old one yesterday with Apple Support but without time capsule backups it's near impossible (for me, anyway). I think I'll just play what I got and then that's it. Like Jean Pierre says I may stick an old LadyDiTunes on an old PC and then do it from that. I'm too old and old fashioned for all this joined up stuff. Good to see you back though, PSJ. I thought you'd joined the circus.

Nah took a break from forums, rejoined a few old ones but not that many anymore. Still loving gaming on my iphone, with two kids now the iphone is brilliant for having a quick game here and there !

I bought an old ipad 2 for £120 which was good as it had i think its ios 6 on it. ios 7 seemed to kill the iCade working (MAME appeared really choppy) so i bought an old one just for the icade. I've also still got my old ipad 2 (64 gig) so i've filled that up with all the apps i've lost on my phone.

Quite surprised that even i havent filled up my 256 gig phone though (about 15 gig free) !

Despite the cull i still find it amazing how many great games i've got in the palm of my hand. I mean i've still got so many great games the last year i need to go back and play (Planetscape, The Little Ball, After the End, Lumino City, Bully, Warlock of Firetop Mountain and so many others).

Some emulators have been updated from builds.io (Well worth the 10 or 12 dollars a year) so i've got a fair few old games for my retro addiction. Just checked my phone - 804 applications installed !! Can never get bored !!

Saying that i did have a spell of being addicted to Madden 17 ! Spent LOADS on IAP's (which i normally never do). Had to force myself to delete that as i was spending way too much time on it (my fault totally). Arrrgh !

top man - cannae beat it. I've still got my old iPads 1 and 2 that i was going to fill up. Just annoying with this iTunes thing as I used to love seeing what oldies had been updated - or not. Spent enough to last the rest of my life, mind, so maybe it is time to call it a day - unless it's Brough/Justin Smith/Quantum Sheep/et al.
