Why don't Apple devices support .avi files? I realize the videos have to be compatible with Quicktime, but .avi is so prevalent that it seems odd Apple does not support it. It's a pain in the ass converting videos into .mpeg format every time I want to upload it to my iPhone.

I want to know how to deal with this too. I buy videos on amazon.com and it comes in .mwv files. It sucks that I can't view them on my iphone.

I know that if I jailbreak, I can download VLC media player (my fav player of all time) and it plays every type of file. But what about those of us who aren't jailbroken?

if you want; why not upload the avi to youtube; then use a service like www.keepvid.com to download the video; in mp4 format. then you can do all the conversion on youtube's side. there are tools to convert from avi to mp4 though. (mp4 with H264 encoding = excellent for ipod touch/iphone)

I downloaded trials of 3 different ->mp4 comverters on cne download.com with great reviews. The videos ended up in horrendous quality and took 2 hours to convert each. I gave up after that.

I use Format Factory to do this and the process is simple, but that's not my issue. It's the fact that converting videos takes a long time no matter what tool you're using.

I just don't understand why my 5 year old Creative Zen (which is a simplistic media player) supports more video formats than the iDevices of today.

Oh you should really give Format Factory a try. It's very user friendly and it has an iDevice icon that you can click on and in a few short steps, it's converting the video and in good quality.

The link below is a screenshot of the program and the link at the bottom is the homepage where you can download it from.

I'm always open to suggestions if anyone has an experience with a better program.

The man has over 2400 posts. That means his penis is bigger than both of ours combined. I think he knows what's talking about.
