It may not be the closest, but it's definately in that same vein. Even the developer noted that Contra was an inspiration. Main difference is the sci-fi storyline and the upgrade system. Level design has a Contra feel IMO.
Forget storyline. Contra was never about storyline. Besides, Contra is about side-scrolling fast-paced action. That's something Iron Commando Pro had; Star Marine had slow-ass gameplay.
