I think you'd be surprised how many great games are out there that don't have any save ability… I think you should look toward Flash games for ideas. There are some incredibly addictive flash games that plonk you right back at the start each time you play and no one seems to mind.
That's actually a pretty good idea. And you are right, there are many games that don't have save states.
Yeah I guess so. I'd say those games that have in depth gameplay but dont need a save feature would work. Like games that have you fight quick matches.
This sounds interesting. I know from playing around with GS that it's kind of tricky to get touch input just how you want it, but it seems like if you set up complicated enough actors anything's possible. PM me and tell me more ideas if you'd like.
However I really hope they are working on a save system. It doesn't seem that complicated to me - you would just need a system that stores current scene, actors positions, attributes values and so on. The dev would specify exactly which information is needed to be stored. It would be an awesome jump forward for the system. After all they are just in beta and I'm sure there are lots of good things to come.
does gamesalad allow you to write your own objective-C code? if so; just write your own little save-state routines.. if its crippled and only does what the IDE allows you to; i would give it a miss until it provides all the functionality it should. best to email the developer of the tool/library and request it.
Been using GameSalad for a long time now - and the Save feature is top of their list of things to add, as well as being the most requested feature among the community there. It's just fun to use!
I think if your looking for ideas, you should remember the 80s arcade scene, now that was an awesome time, anyone could make a game out of ANY idea, no matter how crazy. Kind of like the app store, today. Take Q-Bert for example, it was a crazy unique game, it was fun, and to this day i don't think anyone else has made a game that was anything like it. I remember this game called Bubbles, where you were a bubble rolling around in a sink, collecting dirt to make yourself bigger and avoiding ants.. Personally, i think there isnt enough craziness and originality in games today, we need more games like Katamari Damacy or Portal!
