Update: I'm in the process of adding OpenFeint to afterwing. All current owners will get a free upgrade when version 1.1 comes out. Also I should add that this game works with the ipod app so that you can play your own music and have the sound effects play through! [All codes are given out. Please purchase afterwing and try it out you are interested. store: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/afterwing/id357287831?mt=8 promo: happy shooting!
haha thats funny you should mention this, I played alot of starfox as a kid. Kind of the inspiration for the planes and the ability to break your wing which is kinda funny. i wrote the game that became afterwing when I was 19 with the idea to make an airplane game that was as chaotic as possible. While the game is really challenging, those who make it to the last level see 50 bogeys and a hell of alot of carnage. I had to bust my rump to get the old school iphones (non 3gs) to process that many planes. Same thing went for the city scape My room mate is also obsessed with the game. He helped me do alot of the testing. He's already beat it and is still challenging himself to do things like win with only the guns.
The game is cool. It's difficult so as I won't quickly lose interest. Hopefully OpenFeint or the equalivalent will be considered for the future.
I was wondering what the heck that green leaf was haha. I'll certainly consider it for future updates. I had some "achievements" ideas of my own as well
Wow. this was surprisingly very easy. THIS IS NOT LIVE YET. But barring any problems from apple this should be included in my first 1.1 version update
Initial Impressions This game is off to a great start. The game engine is smooth and silky on my 2nd gen iPod Touch. Graphics are decent and the menu transitions are well done. Pick your terrain, and you're off to shoot down bogeys. There's a radar to help you find them, and you've got a few heat seeking missiles and unlimited ammo in your gun to get the job done. There are several themed worlds, and different levels in each world to fight through. I think that with some work, this will be a smokin' game. Forgive me if I sound overly critical here, but things I would recommend working on are: - The game is upside down for iPod Touch owners. Please include an option to flip the display (or auto detect it) - I'd swap the fire and brake buttons. - A throttle might make more sense than the brake button. Or even a set of fast/slow toggle buttons like your guns/missiles. - While the graphics are good, the ships really need to be more than just flying wedges, try to add a little more complexity to the ship models if you can. At the very least make your ship look different than the bogeys. - It would be nice if your gun shots were a different color than the bogeys' as when you are in a cloud of gunfire, it's hard to tell. Also lower the sound of enemy gunfire a bit - when you get close enough, it's a lot of noise. (Neither of these are a huge deal.) - Radar could show bogeys above/below you by showing dots in different colors. - It would be nice if there were some visual to receiving damage, perhaps even differentiating between left/right/back/front so you could see where you're getting hit from. Phew! Hopefully that list gives you some ideas for future versions of the game. Right now, I would recommend this game to someone looking for a very smooth and very hectic space dogfighting game, that is already good, but has some room to improve - in fact I already see some neat stuff being posted by the dev here on Touch Arcade! 4 stars.
I really like some of your ideas: I noticed this as well. let me see what I can do. Gotta unlock the turbo I attempted this using blender and it turned into a disastrously ugly looking ship. Unfortunately thanks to the city scape, I have squeezed every little ounce of performance and ram I can get out of the non 3gs devices. The city scape has over 20 thousand triangles which is alot for those old ipods. I'll mess around some but I may have hit a wall here. interesting idea. I'm not sure which colors are good. My only concern is new users may be confused by the two colors and think planes are on different teams. I was also concerned with the radar range considering a way to tap the thing and have it temporarily blow up. I tried this and the plethora of sound as you already mentioned got annoying. Iphone users get a vibrate option, i may have to blur the screen red for the ipod ppl thanks!! Also what did you guys think of the icon? Some people on other sites commented that it was too uninteresting. Personally i like it ~mike
Exactly what I was thinking when I said to improve the ship designs if you could - that city is very nice to look at. Though if you take the time to look at it you're probably on your way to being shot down... As for the icon, I think it looks fine, but is a little dark/cloudy. What to replace it with? I don't know - perhaps a view of your ship like in the menu, but angled a bit more to the upper left. I think the idea is to make the icon stand out, bright/high contrast...
Ok. Its almost 5 in the morning and i'm wired as hell. This update is 99% ready. Afterwing has owned my life the past few weeks I'll definitely need to chill after this next release. Nonetheless we now have *default orientation as landscaperight /w option to change *background music in all levelswith optional disable to ipod music/custom soundtrack *a set of both easy and difficult achievements that will challenge even the most skillful players *call of duty style "hurt" circle to show where attacks come from *tap radar to expand and increase range yea.. 1.1 will be sweet ~mike
