For 2011, it's about $120 for the year not a lot, and in fact a tiny amount considering the amount some other posters spend. Great sales and a lots of wishlist apps going free helped me out a lot in this regard, and now i have a bit of a backlog of games that i haven't even touched yet, so unless its a game that I HAVE to have, i dont bother. But even without that I would have struggled to cross 200$ for the entire year, there just aren't that many games that I like. EDIT: just went through some of the games that I had bought and I realized that I've definitely spent more than $60.
Crap I feel like a nerd now, to my defense most of my purchases go towards music. And by most I mean 10% lol. I only buy cards I won't set up my account with my credit card because then spending would just get out of hand if I had unlimited credit, Only putting $40 credit on at a time restricts my spending.. Especially when it gets under $20 then I usually drag it out for a while.. Wen I first put the $40 on I buy the crappiest stuff ever that I don't even want, just for the feeling of satisfaction of buying something new. It's like very cheap "retail therapy" And I truly think it's just as addictive as normal shopping addictions People have where they must go out and buy new handbags and shoes each week.. Thankfully the apps and songs are only 99c but it's still an addition, I think I'm addcted because most of the time I buy games I don't play them I just feel the satisfaction of the purchase then snub the app, I'm like an app hoarder A bunch of people also have my password and I wouldn't trust them with my credit card, not because their untrustworthy but some of my family aren't very tech savvy and accidentally buy things they don't realize costs, like IAP.. I'd be fuming if I got a 30k bill like people I've seen on the news.(though my credit card company usually warns me When A big stupid purchase is made like One when I spent over a grand at a grocery shop And they rang.. I'm sure AppStore would Garnish a similar sussness of a stolen credit card) Least this way I can only lose $40 which is norhing to get too riled up about.. Well $30 really, I usually buy 2 $20 cards for $30 . December didn't end up being such a big month after all neither is January, have hardly bought anything new the last 2 months, just crazy Hedgy probably, and some older apps. One of my new years resolutions is to Cut out all unnecessary purchases and save more money, shudder
I got my new iPhone in October and since then I've already spent $192 on apps! Im pretty shocked to be honest. Buying stuff on the app store is an addiction of mine, guess I gotta do what tannorexic is doing!
I have owned an iDevice since December or '09 and since then I have spent easily $3,000-$5,000 on games. Quick side note: I have only beaten about 5 of those apps.
I've spent since I joined Toucharcade last year until Dec 31st a total of $400+. All are from the gift cards I've won here btw. No money from my wallet was spent. Lol. Now I still got half to spend for this whole year.
According to Appzapp the apps in my iTunes library = 3,142 USD. Obviously many gotten while free or on sale (and not all are games of course). But yikes
I budget 100$/year in downloading apps for research at work. I budget 100$/year in personal fun. I've already busted my personal budget for the year and am approaching my work limit too.
crap? Each YEAR?? Around $700... give or take about $150. late last year, and so far, this year, have been pretty expensive, with developers taking more advantage of the iDevice hardware, the games prices are going up. Couldn't be more happy about it either! I can't wait til very professional, higher quality, $5-$20 games make up a more significant part of the AppStore. (but... xmas, tax time, and my birthday, I usually go ahead and grab $150 worth of giftcards around each of those times... and that makes up a big part of my yearly spending total) And even then, I'll still be spending less than if I was buying a bunch of games for an XBOX or Vita... But I will admit that the amount of old-school games (original NES, SNES, GameBoy and SEGA cartridges that I've been purchasing off of craigslist, ebay, and other sites) has taken a small hit with the AppStore prices going up a tad... oh well. Still a very happy gamer. =oD
would love to know how much that Sanuku dude spends a year. he seems to buy almost every app that's out
I've always spent approx $30 per month on iTunes credit = 360 per year. But it kinda depends..for instance, when I first got my iPad I spent alot more because you need to fill up your iPad with a whole library of games.. I probably spent atleast $500 total that year, which is $140 more then my average year. But this year I'm doing great. Behaving much more! I finally learnt how to be patient. I only buy games I definitely want. (watch trailers/gameplay footage, read reviews/impressions) I only buy games that are 99c Any games I badly want that are more then 99c I put on appzap and wait for sale or free. I look out for promo codes, contests, etc. I like their FB page, twitter etc to look out for promo giveaways I have done this since around mid february..the last iTunes card I purchased was in february, ($30) 3 months have passed, and I still have a couple of bucks in my account. I am so freaking proud of myself to be honest. For a while I was just hoarding apps/games and music and rarely using them. It just gives you a quick buzz..like retail therapy. But you don't have to feel so guilty because it's only 99c. But now I have learnt to control my OCD cravings and only buy games I actually want and will play. I still have a problem actually playing the games though.. I often play once then never come back. Even if I love the game. It's almost like I want to savor the game for a moment that I might really need it. I'm a f+cking weirdo, I know. Who the hell "savours" an app..like it's a juicy steak or something. But if I'm just at home I feel wasteful playing a game I really like because I couod be doing anything, I could go out or watch tv, play video games on console, etc. It seems wasteful. I like saving them for a time when I'm out and bored out of my mind, IE work or Tafe or bus or train etc. All those things I usually dread but if I have a great game to play it almost turns those horrible situations into something awesome. But in this situations I rarely get enough time to actually get into a decent game..I get maybe 5 minutes to spare, and then I don't want to open an awesome game because I don't have time to play properly, I end up opening something quick, easy and sleazy instead like doodle jump or tiny wings - something quick that requires no thinking. So my entire savoring is completely pointless, yet I still do it to the point of compulsion. And all good games are wasted in fear of being wasted. I keep trying to set a day aside to play games but I just can't get into it. I just continue on my journey of app hoarding.though now at least I don't spend much money on this frivolous obsession.
Considering who the question is asking, it should really be phrased "each MONTH". The regulars here do spend quite a lot. Me personally, until I got a great computer and moved on to Steam (which is NOT helping my budget) I spent about $20 a month - so $240 a year. By no means is it a lot compared to some users, but it's a decent amount for me. Nowadays I don't buy any games on the week they're released and only play what is on sale or free. Having more fun with this approach than I did when I bought games, since because sales are random, I end up playing random games, especially some that I wouldn't have tried if I was still buying them regularly. Someone asked about Sanuku - I won't tell without his permission, but you'd be surprised.
I dont know the grand total at the end of the year but I do buy two games every week since I bought my iPhone (September 2010)
A lot, I try not to think about it much though. Im always been a little obsessive collecting videogames, and I must say that when I bought a lot of ps3, xbox or wii games I spent a hell of a lot more and just like iOS games sometimes I didnt even played the games. Now on consoles I only buy the things I know I absolutely love, i.e. in the past year or so Ive only bought Skyrim and ME3. So switching console game hoarding with iOS game hoarding its actually very cost-effective for me.
I am almost exactly the same. now I only buy games that I really want or that are on sale. my ipod was starting to look like a iOS version of "hoarders", full of games that i've bought and downloaded to never play.
Yep that's me. It's hard to resist not buying something just because it's 99c, and games do go free quite frequently and so the hoarding just happens. I have a quite a few "heavy" titles (rpg or strategy titles) I have yet to play, because I just can't really get into them not having finished the ones I have before I got those.
