A question for the OP: Did you advertise either of your apps, or simply post them to the iTunes store and let them generate their own momentum? I'd be interested to know what kind of, if any, marketing and promotion you did for such rapidly developed apps.
Well, one thing I assume is that independently developed apps don't know how to swim. So you have to teach them, or they will sink. Bleh, forget the metaphors: I didn't pay a dime on marketing, though, it was still advertised via countless forums posts, commenting on popular blogs, free press releases, etc. Even the OP here is an advertising outlet, I didn't write it to be inspirational, I wrote it to get the app name out there, and make people look at the app. It's definitely unconventional advertising, they don't teach you this sort of thing in Marketing School, but I see 1200+ views on the thread alone. Keep in mind that nothing beats the traffic from direct app store exposure. Anyways, if you take this route, there are a lot of strict forum mods out there on the less fortunate boards, so be prepared to get hit with a banhammer over and over again.
