Multiple touches. Okay, this one is quite funny... It's repeatable, but a little involved to describe: PREPARATION: ========= a) Ensure DRAG option is set to ON. b) Start a game of Classic Solitaire and ensure there is a valid move available for you to make. In this example, I have a red queen available to move onto a black king. STEPS: ===== If you try to drag two cards at exactly the same time, you get some flickering results and two cards of the same value can be moved around the screen. But here's the fun part: STEP 1: Click on the higher card (henceforth referred to as the king) and drag it down near the menu bar, but don't lift your finger. STEP 2: Touch a blank area of the screen with a different finger, while still holding the King. STEP 3: Lift both fingers and the King will stay on the screen down by the menu bar. The King is now positioned somewhere it shouldn't be. STEP 4: Try moving the lower card (queen) into the position where the king was originally, up the top. In my case I'm moving the queen over to a blue card that hasn't been turned over yet. The game correctly rejects this move and returns the queen to it's original position. STEP 5: Drag the lower card (queen) on top of the higher card (king) down by the menu bar. The result is unexpected. The lower card now moves to the Kings original position up the top, and the King is still down by the menu bar. A space is left for the king up the top, but its actually displayed below. Funny! If you try to move the lower card (queen) it will keep returning to the Kings original position. STATUS: We now have a King in the middle of nowhere, with the Queen in the Kings original position. STEP 6: Now move the higher card (King) away from the menu bar. This causes both the King and Queen to move. If I move the King back to it's original place, the Queen can sometimes move right off the screen. But, If I move the King down, the Queen returns back down too, as if the two are joint a set distance apart. STEP 7: (a) Move the King back to it's original position and (b) Move the lower card (queen) on top of the high card (king) and everything returns to normal, with the queen under the king. SOLUTION: ======= When dragging a card, other touches should not be processed. I enjoyed finding this one.
First of all, it is a nicely-done great game! I love card games and I play them all the time on my ipod (I have both an ipad and an ipod). I have been testing for about an hour and the bugs I have found up to now: 1. in landscape mode, the "Choose a Game" title bar is shorter. 2. If you click "Scores", The top bar (iPod...Time...Battery indicator) won't go to portrait mode for at least the following games: Classic klondike Single card klondike Scorpion Spider (2 suits) If you start with portraint mode and click "Scores", the top bar works fine. 3. if a game start in portrait mode and you accidentally switch to landscape mode in "options" "help" "stats" or "menu" (the scores panel is supposed to be only in portrait mode?), after you change stuff and click "done", it takes a long time for the card decks to adapt themselves to landscape mode (sometime just won't adapt at all). This applies to all the card games that suppose to adapt. The same problem when you start with landscape mode and then need to switch back to portrait mode. 4. The autorotation capability is "disabled" is you go into the "scores" panel in the bottom menu. For example, suppose you start with portrait mode in any game, if you click "scores" in the bottom menu, and then switch to landscape mode in the "scores" window, and then click done. The game won't adapt to landscape mode even if you try to do it yourselves (which you are not supposed to). You can, however, then go to "help" or "stats" to enable the autorotation capability. 5. Sometimes (I am trying to find the cause), in options, the names won't change for making changes on background, card deck or card back. Click for illustration. I am not sure exactly what i did to disable this functionality. It happens at least to the following games: Classic Klondike Single Card Klondike Free Cell Spider (1 suit) 6. The game does crash 4-5 times during my 1-hour testing, in places where you want to switch games, change card deck settings, and switches between portrait and landscape mode. 7. Sometimes, in Classic klondike (I guess in other games as well), if one card is dragged and placed (the card drag option has to be enabled), the card behind it reveals itself and is not dragable until one other effective action is made, including placing another card, dragging 1s in the upper four card deck area, etc. 8. In landscape mode, the "about" dialog box is in different format with the "credits" dialog box (I suppose they should probably be in the same format as in the portrait mode). 9. In landscape mode, if you click either "stats" or "help", you can observe a weird fast transition of the window, from portrait to landscape. Even if you have stayed at landscape mode for a long time, this transition still happens. To illustrate this is indeed a bug, try start any game in portrait mode and click on "options". Next, tilt the device to landscape mode, and click "options" again, you will be able to observe a very fast transition from portrait to landscape. This transition, however, disappears if you stay in landscape and click "options" again, indicating that the implementation for "options" remembers the users preferences. But not for the "stats" or "help". The weird transitions are always there. Newly added (2011-01-23 12:47 PM): 10. The causes of issues 5 and 7 are hard to identified. It seems it doesn't depend on what you do exactly, but they happen usually when you had played in the game for a while. A sign of the bug happening is when you go to any menu in the bottom, make some changes, and finally when you click "done", we will be able to observe a slow response (usually it will return back to the game very fast) and that is it. If you go into options and changes either the background or card deck, the name won't change. And probably in that case, quite a few games have also the dragging issues as stated in 7. I think it is probably the memory issue. Newly added (2011-01-23 13:02 PM): By the way, I forgot to mention that I tested the game on an iPod 4G with iOS 4.2.1. It is fun to do that test. You guys obviously did a fantastic job with so many games incorporated into one app, and you are so eager to find testers to dig the bugs. Hope my test will help you improve in any point. I did the same procedure and the game switches fine. It does crash sometimes.
I must say as a preface to this list that I hope I do not come across as a stickler as there are many elements I liked about the app. So this list will include the following: Glitches and Ideas for improvement. An affordable solitaire mega app is a powerful resource so I hope these suggestions and observations as well as glitch reports help make this game even better. 1. As the splash screen shows up the player is immediately pushed into the game in almost a jolting transition. I think it would benefit the user to have a little bit more of a chance to get ready. 2. With issue 1 is that when immediately put into the game, the counter already begins and for people who are sticklers for beating it in record times I think it would be good to have possibly a menu in which the player can choose their game type with time. I thought of a good example for this and here is what I came up with. You walk into a diner and immediately you are given the menus and asked what you want. The user does not get a chance to prep. 3. The playing field is scrollable and in this comes the unfortunate issue I ran into in which I accidentally scrolled past the game and had to scroll back up which also cost time and was somewhat of a annoyance for the player 4. When the main menu is accessed the timer continues to roll through (I bring up the timer a lot because even though solitaire is in itself not a multiplayer game, the timer is what thrusts it into that realm.) 5. When the Credits is accessed the timer continues and this is an important issue because the credits are there for you guys to have your stamp on your software but when the timer keeps running the user does not pay attention to the data there. 6. The About page contains a link to MastersoftMobileSolutions.com and I think it would benefit to have the link drawn then into a safari web page if that is what you guys would want. 7. On your about page I wanted to check out your guys sudoku software as I also love sudoku and I enjoy seeing how people's versions look. This is a two part problem. The first being that your title product is not titled "SuDoku" as in the capitalization of the letters is not needed. 8. On the about page about sudoku there is also an exclamation point. The problem this leads to is there is another software called Sudoku! which is not your product. This led to me trying to find your product on the store. Side-note I looked at this product and was really blown away by the diversity of gameplay elements but that is where the problem hurts you guys. If I knew what to search I would have immediately found it. I think this can be fixed by simply including a menu where one can browse your other software. 9. I have had this glitch happen so far 20 times in my three hours spent with this program. I will leave the program up and if left for awhile the program completely quits even before the device goes on standby. 10. The button of the option is too close in relation to Scores and Menu which often resulted in accidentally hitting one when meaning the other. 11. When clicking on the app and entering the game there is a rectangular thin white strip that appears at the top of the app screen and then it disappears in about half a second. 12. On the opening screen the word favorite is squished together and in some ways is hard to read in the opening. 13. Restart the Hand is not accompanied by the sound effect deal a new hand receives. 14. I was starting up the game and I was touching the cards and trying to drag but they would not. I assumed that this was not an option in the game but only later found out that default it is off. I think overall you guys did a great job on the drag feature and it should be your prominent setting as every other solitaire game I have played has featured that as the start up function. 15. In regards to the options, the hit radius to switch the card backs is perfect on the left arrow < but the > arrow is less precise and when I hit it dead center the card backs did not change. 16. In the background and card deck option the arrows on either side are not sensitive at all and in some regards non functioning. Great job on the palm tree deck, it is a great use of vector images and the shading is great. 17. In the rules for Classic Klondike near the end at the last paragraph it says "alternating color as illustrated" I read through this part and it stuck out to me as there was no illustration it was referring to but I could be wrong as you may have meant "verbal illustration." 18. Also n the Rules for classic Klondike the word Tableau has an extra space so it looks like Foundations Tableau in the help section this is not repeated so it was obviously a simple typo which the inner english nerd in me was drawn to first. In regards to the rules I think you guys did a great job in summarizing the rules as most card games have a variety of intricacies that you guys did an awesome job in covering. A possible suggestion to work with on the help if the idea came to mind was to use illustrations as a breakup of the text. I bring this up because then the text has a clear break piece by piece for the user. For example you could have your typical this card is correctly placed here not here illustration. This is just an open suggestion as it is more an idea of improvement. Actually here is an idea I have noticed other apps use. Your Help looks like this How to Play Classic Klondike (Header) Game Setup Stock-******************* ********************** *********************** ********************* Waste-**************** *********************** ********************** ********************** Foundations-*********** ************************ *********************** ************************ Tableau-************** *********************** ******************* ********************* Here is my idea to make it less volume for you guys. I notice you can highlight a rule or highlight a header. I had the idea of what if you used collapsable menus with the help section. For example collapsed the help page would look like this How To Play Classic Klondike (Header) Game Setup Stock Waste Foundations Tableau Those can be clicked and boom it expands to show the rules. The human eye when viewing information is attracted to limited pieces so if you did that the help could be separated into pieces for the user. That was a long post I realize but I want to help you guys in whatever way I can. 19. The sound of the cards being dealt sounds somewhat off. I was not sure to include this but it was something that stuck out to me as it played over and over as I shuffled through the different game types. It does not have that distinctive card deal sound but instead sounds muffled and in someway distorted on my device and others. I would even volunteer to rerecord it if you desired it. 20. Your prominent selling point of the app is the sheer volume of what you offer. The splash page does not offer that information as to how deep the game is. In fact that can easily be fixed with just a blurb saying featuring 12 different card games or whatever title you guys would work with. 21. On the top of the screen there is the timer but what would help would be the title of the game so that no matter where I am in the game I know I am playing this particular game. 22. These next few are missing rules in the game options. The first is Free Cell Solitaire which is one of my absolute favorite game types but the help does not have any information as how scoring is done. Such as not featuring info about Good Points vs Bad Points. 23. Baker's also does not feature scoring information such as how one gets a point for each card moved to the foundation card and the maximum score one can get. 24. Scorpion does not feature scoring information such as points for builds etc 25. I discovered a glitch that occurred when going from Klondike to Spider 1 Suit Spider 2 Suit and Spider 4 Suite the orientation changes which is normal because the playing field needs to be longer but when switching back to Klondike the orientation stays the same even though I have my device vertical. 26. When I did some turning of orientation the rectangular bar that I mentioned before shows up at the top cutting into the playing field. 27. The orientation seemed to waver when I went into options and into choosing different games. In horizontal mode when I click help, the screen jerks from vertical to horizontal. 28. When I go from horizontal orientation playing single card klondike when I click the score it goes vertical orientation. 29. When I go from horizontal orientation to score there is white rectangular bar at the bottom of the score screen. See Illustration:http://img.waffleimages.com/1c52051838fa0bf862a4358211d44cfaf9505b3c/photo.PNG 30. When going into the menu at the top it says New Solitaire Game at the top and then has the options. It seems redundant to have that and then the options below so one could easily remove this and it would seem to flow more. 31. I found a major glitch that when I was switching orientations I got the app to cut my screen in klondike so that I had only one ACE pile showing while the rest were off screen and was unable to be moved until I switched orientations. 32. When going through the options a second time I noticed that the options fixed to where the previous place was left off so instead of scrolling up to the top it stayed at the bottom where I had previously clicked "Drag Cards". Continued in next post
33. In Pyramid Mode the card drag "button" is not placed on the entire card. For example if I drag from certain sides of the card the card does not move instead the playing field moves. The scrolling playing field often impeded in the Pyramid Mode. 34. When testing orientations I decided to try out the various editions in horizontal mode and when in Pyramid Mode specifically the playing field appears blank in that the pyramid is the only part seen and not the draw pile. The draw pile is revealed by scrolling down which I could see confusing users. 35. When I went from horizontal mode to choosing a game the top menu looks like the following illustration 36. This is more a really nice feature but I loved how you had on Canfield Help Menu a short blurb about the history of the game and I think that was a really nice touch as I love when games include a little bit of history. 37. When going through the games I noticed that the Deal A New Hand sound plays when selecting the option of any game type. So instead of there being a playing field and then the cards appear the sound plays while still in Menu. I do not know if that is intentional or not. 38. Great job on keeping the stats so well organized and also so varied as well though when I hit reset during my game my total did not get reset while all the other options did. 39. In the High Scores page the Moves and Score titles are a little too close together and they look scrunched 40. In Klondike mode I have gotten it to where my card that I drag away from the rows sticks to the playing field. It can be moved around but I am not sure if that is a glitch or an option you guys put in the game. In summary, you guys have a great potential app for solitaire junkies like me. There are glitches that need to be ironed out but that is something that can easily be managed by your team as I see you guys have been pushing out regular updates. Thank you for the code and letting me check out your application. I hope that what I wrote helps and is easy to understand.
Hi Three more feedback items: (1) MAJOR BUG: How to achieve an INFINITE score. ================================= I moved one ACE to the the Foundations in Klondike. The other three foundations were empty. By dragging the ACE from one foundation to the next, my score went up 10 points each time. Using this approach I can move the ACE between the foundations for as long as I want, to achieve record scores. I replicated this by having two Aces in the foundations and moving them around. (2) Unable to move ACE to Foundations ========================= In Klondike, I am currently unable to move an Ace from the 7th (rightmost) column, to the foundations at the top. - All other cards can be dragged as expected, but not the Ace, which should be a valid move. - Switching orientation of the screen does not help. - Drawing new cards does not help. - I am able to move other aces from the stock to the foundations. - Because no card can sit under an ACE, I can't try that. (unable to resolve this issue). (3) Klondike accepted invalid move ====================== The game allowed me to move a 5 of hearts from the stock to sit under a Jack of hearts on the Tableau (I have a screenshot if required). Unable to replicate.
Wow you guys are good. Great work. Better than I ever expected. This "competition" will end on 27th January UK time. I reserve the right to increase the number of prizes )))
Can't drag cards (Problem Identified) Can't drag cards (Problem identified): ======================== I've found the reason for a lot of cards in Klondike being frozen / unable to drag. When you move any card up to the foundations from the tableau, the next card revealed on the Tableau is not dragable. This makes the game unplayable. This problem is repeatable. I've proven this on Ace, Two and Three, but haven't tested all cards. Please note this is a different problem to the one reported earlier, whereby the card in the rightmost row can't be dragged. That separate problem has been encountered a lot now.
Card in right-most column won't drag Issue with card in right-most column not being drag-able ==================================== I described an issue earlier whereby the card in the rightmost column in Klondike refuses to drag. This problem was occurring a lot. I have now established that when you move a card from the right-most column, the next card revealed in that column will not drag. I have repeated this four times to verify it's repeatable. This is specific to the right-most column and does not appear to affect other columns. This should be enough information to point you in the right direction...
I am also actually digging in this scenario. I confirm that it is specific to the right-most column and it does happens a lot. I actually found something more regarding this bug: 1. On the rightmost column, if one card is placed somewhere valid (e.g., on top of another card or moved to the foundations), the revealing card is almost always undraggable, except it is an ACE, which can be moved to the foundations. 2. In case the "undraggable" situation happens, the card becomes draggable again if a valid move happens that relates to this card. For example, on the rightmost column, I moved heart ACE, club 3 reveals (and is undraggable), which becomes draggable again when I put diamond 2 under it. I moved club 3, heart 10 reveals (and is undraggable), which becomes draggable again when I put spade 9 under it. I moved heart 9, club 8 reveals (and is undraggable), which becomes draggable again when I put diamond 7 under it. This implies that this bug is usually temporary and sometimes can be fixed with other valid moves. 3. Continuing on 2, there is one exception, which is when a King reveals itself after a card on the rightmost column has been moved. This case cannot be fixed, even if you put a valid Queen under it. It is a strange but as RED1 said, it is interesting to note it...
Another two issues I have found: 1. I switched from Baker's Game to play Single Card Klondike. I disabled the drag function (since it is reported to be problematic and I wanna test the tapping function). As I played the game, the rightmost column revealed a club King. It is untappable neither, thus implying the issue of the rightmost column card being undraggable is not specific to the drag functionality. Then I went to options to enable the drag function (hoping that it will heal), and when I clicked "done", the game returned back to Baker's Game!! This bug is unrepeatable. And I only met it once during my entire solitaire testing. 2. In Single Card Klondike, when you complete a hand with all the four foundations stacked with ordered cards, the game didn't end nor showed any "victory" message, and the clock was still ticking.
Hey Broadpfc, It's interesting that it didn't acknowledge your completed game. Have you won any of the games and had the victory acknowledged? I haven't won a game yet! LOL.
Nope. I just finished Single Card Klondike again. No acknowledgement neither. Then I tapped options, and then "done", the game switched to Baker's Game again!! It remembers that game all the time! LoL.
********************************************************** Massive thanks! Totally exceeded my expectations there! There was only supposed to be one prize but I got 2 more so the 3 winners are: Red1 $50 Bitsandpixeltester $25 Broadpfc $25 I will defnitely do another competition again soon. That really was a stunning success. Thank you! PS Please PM me if you won letting me know your Paypal ID. ;0)
