Well it's a bit ambiguous but the eye icon left top stands for enemy, as the flame stands for torch, or the thief mask for stealth.

Yes, you can't turn a guard to a position outside of the board.
Have you tried this? A guard once affected by the noise arrow won't turn anymore.
