Demon follow turned off is useful for cancelling sucide bullets in Death-mode. It lets you control the position of your Demon manually.
I had the same problem and thought it was a Bug. But i realised that you don't have to tap it to activate power-up mode, you need to keep it pressed.
I posted a messege on twitter about that bug but didn't get a response. Hope its fixed! gets me killed alot of times.
Well I just realised that those high scores are because of an item that enables sucide bullets or Deathmode even at Novie difficulty in iPhone mode!
