How vital is it to play the first game when it comes to story? Is it just nice to know or would I be pretty lost without the back story?

I have the official app from the appstore and it has worked just fine on ios 7 ipad air 64gb. Only issue I've seen is that the joystick is glitchy...
I don't mind just playing against bots if controls work. No other quick twitchy shooters out on ios, at least not with this level of nostalgia....
My issue is a reversed X axis but Y operates normally, would I use the same values?

You have a point there with the joystick overlapping into the look area. I can walk with the joystick but I HAVE to turn. It's impossible for me...
@boardumb according to the site, also make sure your copy of the game is updated to 1.32 (can find the patch anywhere) in addition to the other steps
@seantyas what device do you have? and when you use your joystick does it strafe or turn your character?
I think for 1) it'd be easiest if the icons can be moved around and resized, then the dev wouldn't need to worry about the different control...
