I like crossbows better, because with a bow, you have to pull it back and then fire an arrow, which takes longer. You have to go to the Tower...
Even the iPod Touch 5 doesn't run the game at a stable 30 FPS throughout! The game sometimes dips below 20 FPS in some instances.
You have to level up a little at the beginning to make it easier for you. Also, remember to block, which reduces the damage taken.

I think that the ranged combat is better/more satisfying than the melee combat in this game. Just my opinion, though.
